SohailSays, 12 Jun 2018Indian government has already banned Xiaomi to sell phones ... moreIndian govt didn't ban. Due to patent issue between Ericsson and Xiaomi, Indian court barred xiaomi from releasing smartphones with Mediatek chipsets. However, Mediatek recently revealed that Xiaomi and Ericsson settled their terms. So we might see Xiaomi handsets with Mediatek processors soon in India

This is the problem with Redmi series. They often have little to no improvement in performance.
Now, they have the 6th generation of it, but the Redmi Note 3 of 2016 funnily remains to be the most powerful of them all (efficiency is neglected). How come, Xiaomi??
I suspect the Redmi 6 Plus will finally come with the proper SnapDragon 636, or if you pursue to use MediaTek chips, it will be a Helio P60 instead, or even the newer version of it that's to be announced soon.

Wrong move for choosing MTK for this model. MTK chipset Xiaomi phones are unpopular in the Philippines.

Xiaomi and Mediatek. Xiaomi turning into Meizu?

Wow XIAOMI, it seems like u changed the camera position back to where it should be. What's wrong? U regretting that vertical camera position that made your high-end flagship a little ugly?

I'm not an expert for gadgets and phones, but...
They introduced these new Redmi devices earlier than usual. The last pair of basic Redmis was introduced in Nov/Dec last year. If I'm not mistaken, this one has a screen with the latest fad (rounded edges and a new aspect ratio), and a new 12nm chipset, replacing the old 28nm one (if looking at the SD425 variant, the Redmi 5A). The price, at launch, is almost identical. And that is basically it. Due to the screen being smaller, the whole phone is, too. But otherwise, everything else seems to be more or less the same.

Are they trying to differentiate the S2/A2/Redmi 5 Pro etc phones from the basic lineup? Or is there another reason for making this phone less attractive to buy than even some of the Redmi 4 variants?

What is the writer smoking? He says "although battery is smaller by 300mAh the vastly more efficient chipset makes up for it". I am sorry does he have no clue abt the processor on Redmi 5? Cos that's a SD 450 which is just a slightly down clocked SD 625 still based on 14nm. U can't tell me that P22 is "vastly" more efficient than SD 450 especially given the track record of Mediatek...

Not bad at all. The only complain is for the thick side bezels. I strongly believe the Chinese companies should support non US chipset manufacturers for 2 reasons - the chipsets will improve and they won't be in ZTE situation.
If the ROM is based on project Treble, the devices will be updated and everything will fine.
