Perhaps it's because their are a lot of people in the Chinese market, and so even if they sell 5,000 devices to a specific region like say Hong Kong, it would be considered a win. They really only want to sell 1 million devices and China might help get them to that number.

    1. BlackBerry's version of Android cannot be rooted or tampered with. If the OS's core modules have been tampered with, the phone won't boot.

    2. BlackBerry is the only company nowadays that is offering security patches quickly, next to Google itself.

                its all not true.

                pixel, samsung, huawei, xiaomi phone is as secure as bb. bb did not bring something usefull. bb always say more secure, but never gives proves

                  And as you mentioned it, this need it for America and or Europe( maybe, maybe not. It ain't cheap and unless you love keyboard to dead, otherwise I just don't see why anyone paying high price for a mid range phone).

                  But now, they're debuting this phone in China which I don't see how this would have any chance to success.

                  Iike someone once mentioned it somewhere on this website, if it's the service that BB is selling and not the phone, that may have make more sense. But a phone? Maybe not, and especially for the Chinese market where people mostly use app that made by Chinese in China. How does this phone gonna work with those things?

This phone is for those who need it in like America and Europe, business men and people who are nostalgic for this. Not for people trying to get a new phone.

                        Otherwise, you are somewhat right. The input method is what make this phone doesn't work in China or to Chinese language input.( Unless the device itself corporate with some Chinese language input app or well developed a in-house Chinese language input method into their phones).

                        Take myself for example, I'm currently using the Google pinyin input app, the app itself offer pinyin input which is a letter typing input that work like English typing input, and then we choose the character on top of the keyboard. But, that's not it, I can also draw/write the characters if I can't remember ( or don't know) how to input that character by pinyin.

                        Now, while Japanese (and/or Korean ) work differently, it may be good for them. Cause Japanese language can work like English on the inputting way.

                        So, having a actual keyboard on the phone isn't that great for Chinese users.
                        And since this phone are absolutely aim for business personnel, the chances of people getting this expensive phone and not the iPhone are just not so high.

                          the truth, 17 Jun 2018it is for business people only, people sending lot of email... moreKeyboard may be good for English language input, but reviewing the device on YouTube and I realized that BB did something very stupid. One, the navigation key section, that's the in screen software one. So, they should have that hidden when using the keyboard to types. That would have also given more screen space.

                          And, while most if not all Chinese smartphone users in China are using language input app that made by the Chinese ( cause they've got many other function other than just inputting words/characters, and drawing/weird the characters too), and with a actual keyboard you cannot draw/write it.

                          Next, as for security. I don't know how good it is and how much those businessman would've wanted it in China, but since the rich one are either go for a iPhone or support their own brands ( like Samsung in Korea).
                          I seriously doubt that many people would interesting in a expansive Android phone, that's the biggest challenge.

                          Fun fact, if you put in a Chinese sim card into the phone, some of the function/feature will stop working.
                          Most noticeable are iPhone, if you have a Chinese sim card put in and active. The news app on your iPhone that from Apple are gone, disappeared right after the carrier service update thingy.

                            Therefore you shouldn’t have to worry about that if you’re a power user.

                                it is for business people only, people sending lot of emails and needs security with no backdoor. Most people do not understand the security layer has a price, specs comparison for sure you can get a better device for much less. John Chen and blackberry company are now just a software company, mobile phone is just a commodity nowadays. I guess they target 1 million unit worldwide. I will buy one, because I only use emails, skype, excel and phone. Keyboard is helping a lot when on the go.

                                  the touch screen is way better than the keyboard, so bb die.

                                  especially in china, where's their language can't be type easily with keyboard, and they have multiple way to input their character. this bb device will be another failure in china, japan, korea, thailand. and everywhere in the world.

I remember John Chen do not want release BlackBerry phone despite Chinese goverment regulation but he must saving BlackBerry company.
