I dont believe too much about this... where are the benchmarks comparisons? but i would like to see one review of the kirin 980 when will arrive...

My guess is that this is just a temporary performance boost
Which means it is not relevant for the gamers
    Hence not that important

They should have found a workaround the Mali setup like their CPU's. Quite interesting based on their claims. I thought all along that they would be fed up and abandon the ARM's GPU, then jump to PowerVR ship.

GPU Turbo that increases performance 60% just by software update. Sounds very interesting. According to Huawei, GPU Turbo is a hardware-software integrated graphics processing acceleration technology that reconstructs the traditional graphics processing framework at the lower layer system. Cool.

I think the key is Kirin's dedicated NPU unlike Snapdragon that does not has dedicated NPU.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2018hahahhaaa...they will never catch up adreno :)You say that, and I can guarantee they'll catch up within 2 years. Reason why I think this is because Huawei is placing a 7nm Kirin 980 within the Mate 20. The only other manufacturer with 7nm ready smartphones by that time will be Apple iPhones. And if you look at Kirin 970, it is quite behind the competition. And now they're catching up. So it isn't hard to imagine that Mali might be able to catch up to Adreno.

Huawei are very smart if it can improve the performance by 60% by software update only.
Huawei can improve it more on Next processor by preparing new processor which is Faster and smarter based on this improvements. Can they beat Qualcomm Snapdragon processor ?
do they will sell the processor to other phone brand in future ?

In the P20 review from Anandtech they talk about how a memory bandwidth bottleneck is given that phone awfully scores in all gpu benchmarks. Something that is currently solved on the Mate 10 (although the scores are still far away from even last year flagships).

Its not going to make miracles though, as the kirin's GPUs are quite poor.

Would love a review on it how this tech works? Does it really increase performance that much? How does it increase performance while reducing power consumption?

New mode makes it so that all the GPU is being used by apps but at 15% less speed. Thus get a boost of performance with less energy consumption.

I mean it's the only way to get more power with less energy without a die shrink or a new architecture.
