The Mi 8 is still getting a higher score in Geekbench and higher FPS in GFX than a Snapdragon 835 even without the extra cooling...
And how come the Xperia XZ2 getting almost the same score in Geekbench and GFX as the Mi 8 without extra cooling? Was the XZ2 throttling as well?
GeekBench 4.1 (multi-core)'s score: 8494 from uncooled Mi 8, is still closer to 9073 Mi 8 with extra cooling, than 6725 from a SD 835 Nokia 8.
GFX 3.1 Manhattan (1080p offscreen)'s FPS: 53 from uncooled Mi 8, is still closer to 60 Mi 8 with extra cooling than 42 from a SD 835 Pixel 2 XL.
So how is the throttling Mi 8 getting Snapdragon 835 scores?

Really sad how nobody actually understood the point of the article. The main point is that as soon as the device hits a certain temperature point(which is very low compared to the OP6,Vivo Nex etc.),it starts throttling, which means it won't hit any higher temperature because the chip will start downgrading its performance. It might get hotter, but the point is it won't start overheating. And by looking at the benchmarks i can confirm they got a faulty unit, and no im not one of those Mi fanboys like the ones who said Tech Tablets both of his units are faulty because the GPS is not working properly. No,the units are good, but it is a software problem/bug Xiaomi should fix,THOUGH when you see a dozen of benchmark tests ran on the Mi 8 and showing between 260k and 270k every time, you gotta start thinking, did they get a faulty device, because they got 217k!Really low score,so for the best,i believe gsmarena should do another test with a different unit,if the results are same/similar,then im definitely wrong.

Wow, good article, thanks for letting readers to know to avoid this phone. If it will pass through the world cup competition it is clear for what not to vote :) Everybody saying most important is real word performance but I think it is typical BS. Most important is Raw performance of your chipset. If your chipset performs as one year old one, I am afraid you should be worry, what is the point to have best to realise that it only uses over 60 percent of its capabilities? Raw power is what matters. It shows how capable your device will be in a future handling new updates and increased demand from software. So yeah guys AVOID this phone

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2018could be the ceramic back dissipates heat better...? Ceramics, when used as thermal conductor, indeed performs better. But I don't think it's used that way in Mix 2S.

Seems that you just can't please all of the blind Mi fans. TechTablets having GPS issues with not one but two Mi 8 devices... Mi fan goes both of your devices are faulty. GSMArena posted low benchmark score for their Mi 8 review unit... Mi fan again goes that their device is faulty. A joke really for Mi fans to consider flashing their devices with a new firmware every single time it encounters a problem

I saw that in the last cooled run the chip wasn't really running cooler than the first run and was hotter than the second uncooled one. Maybe it isn't the cpu that's throttling but some other component of the phone

Geric.770, 02 Jul 2018Mi8 SE?Mi 8 SE has no OIS nor dual GPS, other internals probably differ as well.
I meant same specs, different SoC.
Could've added SD835 and lowered the price a bit as well.

Anonymous, 02 Jul 2018500 dollar us too much for made-for-50-dollar phone. You're telling me a phone with face scanning tech within that notch from a company that is KNOWN to make phones with very little profit, from a phone with a Snapdragon 845, AMOLED display, dual cameras, 256 GB or 128 GB of storage, 6 or 8GB of RAM is only $50 to make when other phones with similar specs have been confirmed to have been made for around $400 and sell for near $1000 prices?

Anonymous, 02 Jul 2018But why? It's a phone not a gaming computer, why do we need... moreWell, there's also the perspective that smartphones for alot of people are becoming their tools of productivity. Some youtubers actually render 4k video on their iphones and Ipads. I revived an old AMD laptop recently and I feel like my phone handles webpages faster. If I could use the adobe suite on my phone I would. So manufacturers are trying to put more power into these little guys. Also alot of smartphone manufacturers don't do pc's, so they're really hoping smartphones have the potential to replace computers soon.

And in my room it's mostly 30C nowadays!
When you look at youtube({Mi8 Antutu}),every device gets minimum 265000?!!!
My Iphone X was broken(felt down),and now I am very pleased wit this MI 8 !!! I still can't believe it is that good for the price!!!

On the bright side, I dont really see any problem if this Mi 8 performance is exactly like SD835 level. Im sure all apps still run smoothly. High intensive games like Asphalt 8 and PUBG should be no problem either. Daily usage still good.

Every phone has throttling when testing in above normal room temperatures!
Test it again in normal conditions between 18C-23C!
My wife even couldn't use her Iphone X gps apps(waze,maps,...),because her device was too hot today(GPS was disabled)!
And the build quality of an Xiaomi flagship is outstanding!I'm repairing all kind of brands,so I can compare very well!
