I'm not sure about the XA2 ultra, but the original XA ultra gave comparable images to my 13mp zenfone E indoors. Albeit mine were a bit noisier, on the same magnification photos had the same resolved detail.
Those 23mp are apparently just for show. It made me laugh all day.

See the Bright blue sky with little to no detail with your phone. The best way to see how much noise your camera retain despite best conditions. Shame is nobody offers simular performance to sony cameras in term of sharpness+colors. Be it screen(in premium) or cameras, if you love sharp shots, your only other choice is huawei. Can see how they gain fans.
Most flagships went for lower resolution, but to compete in lower and higher resolution at once, huawei with p20pro dig gold in both areas, low res is superior as well as high res at least stand out in not much used hi res camera space in which only few flagships are competing for top.

People bash p20 pro when they see 40MP samples because they expectbit to look as good as 12MP at cropping 100%.
It does not..
No matter the device, if you resize the pic to lower resolution it will look better, way less noise. Does not even seem to be from.same phone.
Google and Samsung are queens of oversharpening, oversaturation and awful at higher ISO...

DxO Mark is a liar and paid. Now your telling me that they rated a phone got released in February. "COME ON" !!!!!!!!!!!!
I know why they did that. Sony didn't pay them like others so questioning whether this rate is right or logic.

DxO is not at the level it was years ago. This XA2 test looks fastly and poorly made and the results are still inconsistent across devices...

Till this day it is a mystery why Sony phone have bad camera no matter how good the hardware is. Sony 23MP with a big 1/2.3" sensor still couldnt do better than a Galaxy A8 with mere 16 MP (1/2.8”) camera.

DxOMark in a nutshell.
1. Companies pay less and then, DxOMark will tear that phone apart with all the positive and negative details they can find.
2. Companies pay more and DxOMark will probably ignore the negatives, only showing the positives and score a lot.
That means, they'll put so much effort for that phone if that company paid them a little.
Then again, Sony once again suck at creating algorithms for their own cameras while Google and other photocentric companies made Sony's cameras greater. I wish Sony could hire the Camera heads of Google, Apple and Huawei so they could teach Sony how it's done.

Sony is the leader in photography, thats an amazing score,wow!
