I'm saying, until HTC actually files for bankruptcy they may still pull it off, with small funding and starting from where they were best at: making innovative small devices that cost a penny and did wonders.

sad but true, used to love the desire series back in 2014. They were the sexiest around but expensive. Its all carbon copy after that with a little tweak there and here. They're expensive even the lower end ones. Huawei and Xiaomi caught up in the mid ranger market. Nokia will soon follow the trend of HTC and fall for the second time. You always get better specs in low-mid range with Xiaomi and Huawei. Otherwise don't even bother making these phones. At least samsung provide amoled in their lower ends.

It's not one thing that ruines them. Its a combination of bad PR and poor phone base they support. They should've figired out by now that no company can survive on just a flagship as most ppl worldwide sont buy flagships. Should've instead release 3-4 cheaper options and pay for adds a lot more. I honestly cant say ive seen a simgle HTC add in the the past 4 years. And the final problem is they make completely unremarkable phones. They need a thing of their own. Lg has audio, Samsung has display, apple has the iPhone, google is google, the Chinese brands have low cost, lemoto has mods. All HTC has is poor battery life and descent specs. its practically sony but with worse cameras.

It is not really about the product itself. Smartphone wars today is almost a marketing war, though having good products certainly help. Xiaomi is now challenging to be the dominant non-Apple smartphone maker, and Samsung better watch out.

I feel like I need to defend HTC a little here. I've only owned two devices and they were both for Google, the Nexus One in 2010, and my current phone the Pixel 2. The Nexus One needed a new power button after a year, if memory serves it was a $30 repair. The phone still works fine btw, just short on memory. And the Pixel 2 has worked flawlessly, the only gripe is those fat bezels. So for hardware they never let me down. I probably wouldn't buy an HTC that isn't a Google phone however. I don't know how their own in-house UI software behaves. Maybe that's their problem. Here's to the future! I plan to get the Pixel 3 also manufactured by HTC.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2018Exactly. Very well said. It's always a pity to see historic... moreI'm a proud owner of the amazing HD2 which served me 4 years. I picked up HD mini, Hero, Legend, Desire HD and Evo 3D along the way.
At one point, HTC stopped being innovative and started following trends, but with a bit bigger price tag.

Competition is beneficial for users when said company actually a threat to other companies, not an expensive tail chaser who once was a leader.

I'm not a hater, but bad decisions happen. If you can't fix them, might as well take responsibility and shut down.

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2018Exactly. Very well said. It's always a pity to see historic... moreYeah you're absolutely right. But please understand that most of these so-called haters have at one time owned an HTC. Be it with a small battery capacity crap, absence of headphone jacks, priced exorbitantly ridiculous, or whatever... Sure they have a choice of not buying their (HTC) products anymore. But since, most of us have the habit of staying loyal to a certain brand mainly because of reliability like cars (Toyota, ___fill in the blanks__, etc.), former HTC owners still buy them. HTC make reliable phones. That's what they were known for in the first place. But one cannot stay that way *only*. They have to keep up with the competition. They should listen to their *loyal* customers rants and gripes and that is what they should have focus. Customers doesn't want the headphone jacks removed, so they should bring it back. Customers wants bigger battery, so put a bigger battery next time. Customers wants an OLED screen, so give customers what they want and release an OLED version. Keep up with the software updates, so don't be lazy and update the software regularly. This one thing of updating the software regularly could have kept some HTC fans from not switching to other brands. Who wants to buy a brand new phone anyway in less than a years time? Specially if the old phone reliably works fine and the newer one is priced unreasonably. But this one thing... they failed to do. I cannot understand where the management of HTCs brains are. Maybe they don't have... It's that simple: "Don't repeat your mistakes and listen to your loyal customers, HTC" it is them who you rely on for your existence, so don't shoo them away...

they will never learn, camera sucks UI sucks Display sucks

Great units. Keep it simple and the focus. Reduce models but have some variance such as a non-glass back, no-glossy metal one - no squeeze but with jack and 660 or above ship. The U series is one thing and whilst i love HTC and still using our reliable attractive HTC One A9s, not everyone wants a super shiny lollipop finish in the U. A bit of sustained marketing wouldn't go astray and seeking more carriers.
                                  Cheers
