Correct me if im wrong but i was expecting/hoping the whole screen would be utalized for this phone. It looks like the onscreen buttons are maybe and inch from the bottom of the phone? If thats the case they may as have gone an put hardware buttons on it.

Well, its only 7 days more to the unveiling event. Soon we will know if its real. No point pointing fingers here.

Nevermind a post from me that is getting moderated (I hadn't registered) where I point out that the screen resolution is "smaller" because of the buttons at the bottom.
Several people have pointed that out and my comment makes no sense anymore.

Thanks gsmarena for putting up a higher res photo.

        Looks pretty nice.

I'm tempted to say it's pentile, cause I can observe jagged edges if I lower the brightness and up the contrast a little bit.

        But really, I'm not complaining.

First PenTile screen I'm not worried about? Could be. Can't wait to see one irl.

@Toaster: I have some tinfoil. Would you like a nice hat?

AnonD-16587, 04 Oct 2011Nonsense. Have you ever looked at above 300 ppi from that d... moreWell if you cant, I recommend visiting an optometrist ASAP...
One of my phones have 283 ppi pixel (Wave), and even though pushing 50, I can EASILY see tagged lines of the watch, even at 20 inches. And anyone younger would be able to benefit even more from higher density.

The limit for what makes sense is about 1/6000 of the viewing distance.
(Please note this is a limit on what makes sense, NOT a limit for what is required. We have used lo-resolution TV's for decades, our eyes/brains are very good at smoothing poor image quality)

(as comparison look at an old 300dpi and a 600dpi laser print at the same distance, I hope for you, that you see the 600dpi as more crisp)

What is the point of having software buttons with that much physchial space beneth? There is easily room for real hardware buttons on that phone. Stupid!

Bailey, 04 Oct 2011Yes all this goodness in a case made of cheap crap plastic ... morePlastic is light. It keeps the weight of the phone down. That also helps when you drop it.

The heavier it is, the harder it's going to crash. See iPhone. The glass is poorly reinforced, and the aluminum case isn't helping either, making it too heavy for its own good and a prime candidate for a smashed screen.

                              @earlier
And I think display width is usually a multiple of 24 sometimes 50 and with a few small exceptions that I can't seem to put in any category (768, 1536.. multiple of 96?)

Because Samsung announced just a week ago the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD with a 4,5inch 1280x720 display

As we can see in the photo, the buttons area below is still a part of the screen, not like those backlit touch sensitive buttons we see in Nexus S, Galaxy s1&2.

Sheesh. Not very hard to figure out there buddy.
