Ok, its business, and brands need money at this point but think of people who already have a lot of 3.5 headphones in collection and like to use it without using adapters for usb C or bluetooth adapters...what they gonna do?!
Obvious: chose a phone with headphone jack. Even if that phone dont be what they like to have but they need to chose because that little (big) feature.

Sony have some points to remove the jack though. They have LDAC, they sell wireless headphones. Apple also have a lot of way to make money by removing the jack. So it makes a little sense for them. But why others doing that?

P20 is weaker than devices with SD835. Worse cpu and awful gpu. Low quality screen from chinese maker.
The device records awful videos, poor quality ( low bitrate) and no electronic stabilization for 4K. Front cam is even worse.
Still the device was $750.
Honor 10 is even worse.. Same old cpu/gpu, cheap screen and cameras are on pair with P9. $500

That's why we should also shift already to USB C for all smartphones in 2018, like there shouldn't be any phone in 2018 with a 28nm processor. In this way, more investments will be made for the development of USB C audio alternative and so we may get better sound quality as soon as we reach further.
That is true, USB C can't match 3.5mm jack in pure audio quality, but that's because 3.5mm jack has been developed over the past decades of its existence, while USB C is just starting in its prime days, and I'm sure that this technology will definitelt get better each generation. Just wait for it.

LDAC IS decent still doesn't match a 3.5mm jack..
Also as it currently stands I don't think there is a usb-c dac which matches the 3.5mm for quailty. Which kinda shocks.. me saying that most people who use a phone for music. Probably don't care about how didn't it sounds.. I mean look at all the people who brought Air pods from Apple.. and it's got amazing connection over quatily rather than the option of both.. like Sony..

Why Sony is on the Smartphone market?! i mean, they should move on like HTC need to do, MOVE ON, DO OTHER THING, Sony have better divisions with more profit than smartphone.
And i dont see anybody with a Sony device for years so, they dont sell them, stay on the shelfs in stores and even there nobody look at them, like HTC.
No headphone jack = no deal.
Brands who remove features like this should be kicked in the a** by costumers, they need to learn that people want what brands didnt, and if they are trying to copy the trend from crapple they should die alone, HTC, Sony (i dont talk about Motorola because they do slim phones and i dont see them able to put headphone jack there) but a 7.5, 8 mm phone can handle a headphone jack for sure.
Look at Mi A1, 7.3mm thick and headphone jack on board, why cannot other brands do it?! cutting corners?
IR Blaster, a feature that only the people who really want a feature phone with extra features want, are dead on sammycrappy and LG phones, why?! a small space with 0.3mm thick with no interference with other things like "we dont have space for that, is too big" - escuse me?! A FKNG millimeter you dont have space for that?!
Brands are trying to move us to better cost vs benefit brands, Huawei, Xiaomi, Meizu will have some new costumers soon because brands are fkng kiding with us.

Alien , 17 Jul 2018I'm really hoping they brought back the 3.5mm jack.. No company has ever done a 180 when it comes to headphone jack. Once they go jackless, they don't ever go back anymore. Moto Z series never had a jack (but a MotoMod has one) since, Apple is a no-brainer, HTC never goes back to the jack and instead improve on audio coming from USB-C, Xiaomi Mi never did that too and the same goes for Sony.
No one has ever done that in the history of Smartphones.
