      greetings,

the next pinnacle breakthrough, which has been dreamt since the discovery of fiber optics transmission, and yet somehow something has delayed the progress, is, FULLY OPTICAL CIRCUITRY.

imagine, a fully transparent alloy, capable of ultra dynamic range, including non-visible light, pass through, dynamic radio wave manipulation quantum processing, thanks to optical nanotech and quantum computing, powered by surrounfing radiowave, projecting wireless audio video tactile directly to brain, thanks to bio-computing tech

we have, small transparent wrist wearable device, or glasses, in which, all the transparent alloy is one optical quantum processor, capable dynamically, process store and capture radiowave information, and transferring that information wirelessly to the biological nerve system

we have, camera, forensic capture ultra dynamic range action cam, mri, usg, ct scan devices all in one, portable size

we have, audio, beyond human receiving frequency

we have, display, wireless, bio-quantum computer, directly tap to biological nerve network, we have, universal language translator, deep sleep recorder and player

we have, radiowave power source, unlimited, as long as we are in radiowave-domain realm

this has been dreamt, and partially marketed through Star Trek the Next Generation universe, invluding DS9 and Voyager

long reach, but that is the future, live long and prosper

I'm surprised that more people want a seperate screen on the back than people going the Essential route with a camera cut out. I don't see how a display on the back changes anything. If y'all remember Mi MIX 2S early renders it had a camera cutout like Essential, but at the corner of the display. I feel like that's the best and easiest alternative to Bezel-less displays.

Even second kind of screen(different tech and specs than main, also being transparent) would be better than just simply cut the part of screen like cake. Screen is not a cake.

It has been barely possible to add a fingerprint under display but it works slower. And vivo had it frist, Samsung not even now dosent have a under display fingerprint scanner lol

You can't have cameras under display, larn how sensors works...

Another vote for a single camera (back) and a viewfinder screen on the back. That could be smaller, lower res than the main screen. Maybe even ePaper, which could then be always on for displaying useful info.

The Notch era is almost dying.
                      Thank you Oppo and Vivo!

why would anyone Like a notch? gotta be dumb af to like it, or it not annoy you.

Personally I'm good with top and bottom bezels as long as there are front facing stereo speakers. I've grown to love and depend on them.

Now where does the front camera go? Ideally under the glass. Or a slide out. But I'd settle for slightly more bezel or a very small notch, with the caveat that the left and right areas should be hidden at all times, except for showing a status bar with a black background. It should always be black otherwise.

Walter C. Dornez, 22 Jul 2018Camera under the display is the future.Yes.
However, it will require a thin OLED display which can shut off its pixels (pure black) to let the device use its sensors (front camera, proximity sensor, infrared camera, infrared emitter).

So when you are unlocking the device or making Payments or Video Calling or Animoji messaging: you will have a Notch. However, when simply browsing the web or playing a game or watching a video it will be a fullscreen experience...if the aspect ratio allows it.

The drawbacks seem to be a lack of front-facing stereo loudspeakers. So essentially speaker performance massively gets downgraded, for this minor display improvement. And that the "Vibrating Display" which acts as the earpiece might mean not using Plastic OR Glass screen protectors as they will dampen or eliminate the Call Volume badly.

....however, this is where the OEMs are heading to: Catchier Buzzwords, Larger Marketing Budgets, Higher Prices, More disposable constructions, Lower Durability, Barely improvements, Changes at the negative cost of other components (like sound).

Modern phones have ditched the bezel but instead need an even bulkier case for protection. It's a net loss.
