Maybe they (both) realized a way to tap the 'AI' co-processors to speed up rendering. Perhaps handling depth sorting & culling, or maybe recognizing similarities between frames and approximating shader results?
It sounds like magic, but if they're tapping part of the silicon that was otherwise dormant it could be true.

This means that, no matter how powerful your GPU is, there are time the battery could really use some help. Other times, even the most powerful of GPUs stutters just for a frame or two: a temporary boost could fix that.

Some phone have gaming controller like Samsung Game Tuner and it let you tweak resolution and framerate. It dont affect the entire phone UI, just the game only. Too bad your phone dont have it I assumed.

I like how asphalt extreme lets you tweak everything.

Sounds as if this boost is only required for Snapdragon 821 or lower processors in midrange phones. I can play on 1080p without any lagg with a flagship phone from last or this year.

This will be like a good old pentium in 90s era with a turbo button :-)
We turning backwards a lot.
Instead of making powerfull CPUs we make a weak one with a nitro fuel option :-)

Only major thing Huwaei have done is rendering game content into lower resolution, and some minor optimisations for single threaded renderers, so its not a new tech. Samsung has given this option to users long back(couple of years) for users with GameTuner application.

Luxor, 25 Jul 2018That just stupid. Lower quality game then. It would be great to have that as an option. Personally, I think that 720p resolution with smooth framerate would be a better gaming experience than 1080p resolution with stuttering framerate.

But this is a poor form by Qualcomm. You should release a product with proper drivers and software from the get-go. Do not half-arse something and then say "Oh I have great news, we're releasing a software update to fix the hardware".
You will fool millions, the normies. But you will not fool enthusiasts, professionals, and scientists. Do NOT stoop to the lows of Huawei, their ethos differs from the West.
