All laptop & pc using windows 10 have same core so everyone get updates same time. But is case of android OEM add & remove a lot of thing & turned it into a semi custom OS. Thats why android updates are so slow. You can root/hack any android device & install the latest android from a pixel phone. But do you know what will happen? 99% case the phone will die due to incompatibility issue.

While Google owns Android and has control over it's pixel and android one devices. Its not that easy to have control over mfg like xiaomi Samsung huwaei as they are heavily skinned. In that past these mfg couldn't cope up with Android updates due to their heavy customization.so updates we're very slow and even now it's the same situation.
If you want timely updates and also affordable smartphone get Android one phones like mi a1, a2 or Nokia series.
Also Google did find a way to overcome these update issues. It introduced project treble from Android 8.1, separating the core functions of OS from the UI part.
In the upcoming days you'll see more mfg adhering to the security and OS updates like android one phones.
While apple is closed source. It has 6 to 7 phones.

Just a quick threat to Qualcomm not to **** around with Apple I guess :) next year if Qualcomm will jump off from apple back, maybe Apple will use it's modems :)

Nokia (HMD Global) delivers guaranteed 2 year updates even with a 150€ nokia 3.1 phone. Actually even under 100€ Nokia 1 gets 2 year updates, but the Android in that is skinned down to make it work in cheapest hardware.

The update patterns on both are completely different.
And yes, in smartphones, a higher priced product IS PRIVILEGED to get better support than a lower priced product. And well as I said earlier, my one year old 150 dollar phone (launched a year and a half back) is on the July security patch, so OEMs are actually providing support to old low end phones as well.

That's quite sad.
If i buy a cheap0 netbook with windows 10 right now (or even from 2009 if it have enough RAM), i will have the same amount of updates and security patches than a XPS 15 or a Surface Book that cost way over $1,500.
I really dont know why you guys find the way to defend something that everybody else in the OS bussiness (except android OEMs) gives you no matter how much you expend on it.

Here in India, 64 GB iPhone X in INR 85000, 64 gb Pixel 2 XL is 50k, S9+ you can get for 65k, so you get the point right? There is nothing mainstream in the market priced as high as iPhone.

But the point is still valid. The % of devices on the latest security patches (or with access to them) is vastly superior, specially if you take into account that Google's numbers are for active devices which are in a more 2:1 ratio and not that 80% marketshare figure.

Even my 150 dollar Redmi Note 4 is on the July security patch right now, on the official MIUI, and my security patch has never been more than a month old since the last 1 year I am using this device.
That number is 12% because of the sheer numbers of Android users, which is about 80%, iOS being 15%.
I you compare with phones in the same segment as iPhone, almost all brands are providing regular security updates since the past 2-3 years.
And from now on, whenever you compare Android with Apple, please do keep in mind to compare a 1000 dollar phone with at least a 600 dollar phone

No offence, but I got 2 brothers, one's a BCA and one is a BTech in IT.
No both of them, within 6 months of their first jobs, get the latest iPhone (on EMIs, because obviously they didn't have the money, but had to buy because, you know, it's "cool"). Now I know them quite well. And both of them, they don't use their phones more than for calling, texts, social network, taking casual photos (aka those selfies and group photos). AND LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE. Before when they had INR 20k Androids, they had NO ISSUES AT ALL. They got the iPhone only for, yes, "SHOW OFF".
Now again, no offence to you, you may be the 1 of those 10 that I mentioned earlier.
But please accept this fact. I said I know over a dozen iPhone users, from middle class to rich, from a top company executive to an unemployed, from a college kid to a retired adult, from a guy to a girl. And literally all of them can do with a phone under 30k max, but they can't because of peer pressure. The rich have the money and they want to show that off, that's still cool, but those who don't have the money, even they buy it on EMIs just to impress those materialistic people out there. No matter how much you try not to believe it, but this is what's true.

Apple's solution to physical hackers, USB Restricted mode, was already defeated before the official release! With Droids and custom ROMs you can get security updates each month as long as the phone powers up, and I don't think you canput the latest iOS as custom firmware on deprecated iProducts, no?

Not sure why someone wants to do that on a tiny screen but whatever. Last time i use it was to simply apply SU -rw permission to some file.
But nevertheless the point is, if we dont have hard data to support it, we are just making suppositions over what people do with their devices or their preferences....

Th... moreHmm android is basiced on Linux which a lot of technical people use for coding and for full access to use the terminal to install programs and much more... Apple is very constricted as in it's simple to use but limited.. so I can't See real technical people use iPhones.. unless they don't care about phones and only computer technically software.. but one day they might be the same thing.. so unless your creating music or doing graphic designing why buy a Mac.. which leads to if you have windows hardware why is pretty open granted. Granted it has drawbacks. Why buy a iPhone.. unless you buy a Mac and do simple things like online shopping and surfing the web watching YouTube video.. but as I said bit expensive unless it's use it for creating and editing videos and making music.
