Nokia Q2 profit misses analysts' predictions, pins its hopes on 5G

26 July 2018
The company's main business by revenue is Networks, but most of the profits came from the smaller patent licensing division.

People are still confused and uneducated. This is real Nokia which does not make phones anymore. Nokia phones you see in a market belongs to HMD, which only licence name from Nokia and it is subsidiary company of Foxcon(yes Chinese giant).

Of course, nothing to do with Alcatel cellphones build & sold by TCL.

Anonymous, 26 Jul 2018It will improve revenue for HMD not nokia though...Nokia Technologies makes royalties off every patent from them included in the HMD phones (hint: it's a lot) and extra on top from the branding.

People don't understand that this is NOKIA. The old Nokia that made phones now does network and technologies stuff so the results are only for what NOKIA does. This has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with HMD (who make Nokia phones), they have a wholly different section about their profits and nothing to do with Nokia.

Sales only 4.7 billions? Not so much considering Chinese network manufacturers are banned to sale on the North American market.
I'm wondering how much is Nokia's overhead, considering their plan to cut 1.2 billions from expenditures. Nokia was always know for huge overhead, but 1.2 billion is about 25% from sales...

What do you expect. Nokia announced 8 new phones if I'm not mistaken in 2018 and they have yet to make them globally available. You can mot keep spending money on RnD, design and marketing and failing to deliver a device for 3-5 months after announcing it, by the time they actually get around to making their phones available on the global market they will be old news and replaced with a new device that's more trendy atm. Nokia should only announce devices after they are capable of delivering it to tje hand of the end user. Otherwise it's pointless.

This happens to Nokia because in their mobile phones there is not any innovation, there is nothing that is very different from companies like Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei ... that in addition to having better products than Nokia, they are much cheaper in some cases. Only Carl Zeiss lenses contribute because the hardware in some cases like the Sirocco arrive with an old 835 SD with a very high phone price when in other brands that model would be much cheaper. In the latest designs Nokia has clearly copied the design of the iPhone X adding the notch instead of making own and breakthrough designs as when Nokia wore Symbian or Microsoft, but this is nothing. Neither Nokia has launched any aggressive advertising campaign to sell their phones well, and it is for example that there are hardly any Nokia phones in stores and in the street I do not see anyone with a Nokia. I only see Huawei, Samsung, iPhone, Xiaomi ... some Motorolas and LG .... but no Nokia. This is the problem that Nokia has: It has not presented ANYTHING that differs from the others, and the results are these. I'm sorry but the NOKIA that I met on Symbian (mostly) has died and has NOT RISEN, is still dead.

Hopefully the Nokia 9 will be worth the 1000, that could help revenue by a lot
