Counterclockwise: the history of Siemens phones and their many innovations

29 July 2018
The Siemens SL45i from 2001 ran apps, had a ROM modding community, could play MP3s. Siemens had many impressive phones like that.

I bet that the quality signal of the antennas on a couple of these old Siemens, Motorola, Nokia and Sony-Ericsson are stil better than many nowadays cell phones...

I still have somewhere me45 winter edition with wicked red lights instead of amber ones. Plus it's white, silver and light blue instead of black and Grey. Great phone!

There was lot of excitement in the air back then. I had C45 then C65 – lot of fun, being able to open word docs; listen to music and audiobooks, it was great; then I remember how much I desired a Siemens SXG75, but never got it.. My next phone after C65 was Nokia N80, Siemes was long gone.. then Nokia followed..
Hoping for the Surface phone, it should be the time for an all in one device.

I miss Siemens soo so much. They were my favorite phone brand, with really logical UIs. just plain German simplicity and quality. If they were to become a serious Smartphone maker again, I’d get one without even thinking twice about it. I loved their phones.

Back when phones had different shapes, ringtones, OS, different games... Sigh. They were good times, TBH. A lot of different brands. And a phone wasn't as expensive as they are nowadays. I always liked Siemens. They did some quality phones at that time and I would say they were always on par with Nokia based on quality (IMO). Sadly, Siemens were underrated really.

sweet memories, Back in 2005 I got my 1st phone Siemens A55, I spent a lot of time in configuration of GPRS setting but never succeeded because later i found data services were not offered by my network. Some sweet ringtones... the sound of Mozar ringtone can still rings in my mind....

Back at the time, maybe in 2001 i have a SL 45 with memory card. It was great phone with mp3 player, but transfering mp3 files was very slow because the cable was on com port. The phone was great for his time.

The Siemens M35i was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the Nokia 3310. Sadly, with all the memes of the 3310 since like 2011, everyone has forgotten about the Siemens M35i and I feel so sorry for Siemens about what happened :'( :'(.

                        I have owned Siemens SL42, SL55, AL21, C72, ST55. I miss Siemens in the mobile world.

SL45i was my father's first cellphone ever used!

OMG! I remember i used to be a huge Siemens fan. They're phones were better than anything else on the market. I remember seeing this ad of some crystal-like designed Siemen's phone & how badly i wanted to buy it... But then over time they suddenly vanished.

One of the better cellphone companies it was... :)

                                    Mine was MC60

If you dig into the list: https://www.gsmarena.com/siemens-phones-3.php
You will find that they have REALLY been daring, with a LOT of unconventional devices. The eight Xelebri ones are perhaps the most odd ones, but the ones like "PenPhone" and the "SK65" certainly have a good odd-value as well!

Siemens were one of the few companies that dared to do something substantially different - and kodos for that!

Yoshi7556, 29 Jul 2018Not really. They are 80% owned by a hong kong companyWell as far is I know a tad more complex. Gigaset is originally a brand used by a division of Siemens. Gigaset are/were known for their cordless (DECT) and desktop land-line phone systems (and answering machines), and this division was for 80% sold. So indeed a bit so-so to claim this as "Siemens". (Their homepage does not even have the Siemens logo on it).

But they claim at least one of their device to actually be produced in Bocholt Germany and not somewhere in eastern Asia. https://www.gigaset.com/hq_en/gigaset-gs185/
