A phone with 4k 765 ppi hdr lcd probably.
But as yt is audiovisual content sound also kicks into merrit.
A phone with balanced front stereo surround sound is best for audio content.
Only one phone out there meets both those class leading specs.

This only shows what they're capable of Software Wise. This list and experiment does NOT actually test devices in real life.
Such as:
Is the screen dim? - Bad: not viewable outdoors.
Is the contrast low? - Bad: no deep blacks, no pure whites, no HDR10 videos.
Is the display curved? - Bad: causes loss of image, and light reflections off sides.
Is the screen aspect ratio long? - Bad: letter-boxing.
Are there two non-equivalent speakers? Bad: only fake "stereo" effect, not true quality.
Are the speakers dull? Bad: not loud enough to blast through ambient noises.
....and if you actually take this real-world/practical viewpoint and benchmark devices, chances are that phones that are in the lead might be from several years ago. And that's something Google would hate to do, as it would show realistically, how bad these new Android phones are despite the ever increasing prices.

There it is on top, just because it was released a day ago, and not because its alphabeticaly first, and other news sites are fake reporting how "Note is on top in the list of YTube certified devices" and all that wrongly presented bull.
Apple fans are right in questioning this stuff.
But then again Apple used Dxo for its release in same manner...
Yeah, yeah, I know its marketing, but people have a right to notice. Its too obvious.

I hate apple phones, but using this article to bash apple is cheap D:
YouTube runs fine on iOS just like android if not better (with the lower resolution comes lower gpu usage).
Also, it somehow misses lots of phones with great screens and great sunlight legibility. Having every codec out there isn't an issue IMHO, but being able to watch it wherever I go matters.

And I suppose that even the XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact also deserve to be in the list.
Oh, and hell yeah the XZP and XZ2P are the best devices for watching because of their native 4K HDR screen resolution!

The poll is made by YouTube, which is owned my Google. Google hate Apple, of course is not on that list.

No G7 ThinQ, P20/Pro, Mate 10, G6 and AFAIK Mix 2s does not have HDR display
