See, European models (Canadian and US Unlocked models too) are multi-CSC, which means ONE firmware is used for all devices from all countries they cover, including their carrier-branded devices. So that single firmware must pass ALL carrier's and all specific country regulations in order to be published.

Also rollouts are staged so the pressure on servers is less.

Some countries get it earlier because certifications and et cetera have been passed properly.

...i really misread the title thinking that it's ....."starts receiving the Pie update today" and then i realized that we are in summer of 2017

Sony do a great jib in updates but price wise, they are expensive for what they offer, so, Pixel 2 is way to go here...its expensive but you will love it and for sure keep it for a long time.

See that all those countries have all the same build number (BRG1) but different release dates. That's because of what I said. It's the same firmware but release is held back for the sake of "testing" and QA.

I strongly recommend that you learn how to flash firmware. You'll be able to expedite updates and to get longer updates than your carrier wants you to.

PS: Always backup. Normally everything should go smoothly but in the unlikely event you make a mistake or if there is a bug, you are safe
