The original Moto G, a budget smartphone, launched on Jelly Bean and was updated to Lollipop. This was when Google owned the brand.
Later, I also had a Moto G Turbo Edition. It was launched on Marshmallow, is still on Marshmallow, and right now, is on the September 2017 security patch.
Even the fanboys need to stop defending "Moto" now, because the Motorola that they loved is long gone, it's all Lienovo now. So remember that you are not a "Motorola" fanboy, but a "Lienovo" fanboy, if you defend the Moto devices.

I've read when lenovo took over motorola they've fired 4/5 out of 2500 ROM-developers, only 500 left. that's eventually why nothing's going ahead.

Got a G5S Plus not more than a year ago banking on the promise of regular updates (Mi A1 wasn't released at that time and Android One program is a sitting duck), but let alone Pie not even Oreo was released. I'm mad on Moto to an extent where i'm not even bothered anymore. Stay away from this brand and its big daddy Lenovo

Motorola is a joke when it comes to software updates.
stay away from their devices. stop buying their devices. let the company die for good. Only then they might realize what they did and reinvent themselves.

geez, in april I bought the Moto G5S and it's still on android 7.1.1, thanks lenovo, but never again.

G5 is half the price of Z2 play with almost Same soc.

Less paid means less support.

So software updates, infamous android one program all was a lie? What's the point of having a moto device then? Probably the only reason I prefer iOS or even Xiaomi over any brand. Not everyone changes his/her phone every year. When I buy a device, I expect at least 2 years of support. Moto G5/G5s still haven't got even oreo, good luck getting pie G6 users. I got a 3 year old Redmi Note 2 at it has already got MIUI 9.5. Even though it doesn't update android version to the latest but who cares, the point of upgrading software is to get new features, fixes and stability, which Xiaomi provides in their MIUI package. No other Android OEM does that.
