The phone has a mind-boggling price tag of nearly $60,000/€50,000.

Heavy price and a very heavy phone. I like the gold but that is like too much gold. Why not buy a 1kg gold bar and keep it at home instead and buy the phone at $1000. Way cheaper. 1kg gold bar is only around $38k now. I doubt rich people would be fooled by this. They are money genius.

The perfect phone for people with more $$$ than brains and sense.

samfan will said it far more cheaper than iphone 6 ... with that price they can buy 3 unit of this note9 ver.

with the advantage of always knowing which pocket the phone is in.

                    Too heavy, LOL.

With all sides and the back panel of the Galaxy Note 9 covered with a thick metal sheet, I suspect this phone's ability to transmit voice and data will be impaired. Add that to the two pounds of additional weight and you have a status symbol with only limited functionality.

I do, however, find this Caviar 1 kg gold phone amusing. I also appreciate how it will entice the rich to be separated from their money.

Sorry sammy but I already pre-ordered two £100,000 2018 iPhones but this could make a great gift for all the hundreds of butler working in my mansion

Motorola was the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone.
On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment, placing a call to Dr. Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs, his rival.
The prototype handheld phone used by Dr. Cooper weighed 1.1 kilograms (2.4 lb) and measured 23 by 13 by 4.5 centimetres (9.1 by 5.1 by 1.8 in).
The prototype offered a talk time of just 30 minutes and took 10 hours to re-charge.

I think mobiles were like this until the 1990's.

When I hold my phone in my left hand (portrait), I have a 2cm curved space between the phone & my hand, so yeah 1cm thick is fine, especially if this enables improvements.
