If SD855 will have at least 10% performance increase over SD845, kirin 980 will need to have at least 50% performance increase over kirin 970 to beat it.

HutHutHut, 17 Aug 2018Nobody in their right mind would compare the Kirin 980 with... moreBe honest, Kirin 970 is hardly any better than SD835 (just compare oneplus 5T and Mate 10 Pro benchmark scores). And SD845 arrived some 3-4 months after kirin 970 and completely destroyed it.
Now huawei does a great job of optimizing EMUI, so even with a slower SoC they manage to have great performance.
Now, we can only imagine how good kirin 980 will be.
But if you do some math and check geekbench score of kirin 970 and SD845, then add 20% to kirin 970, how much will you get?
6600 (multicore) + 20% = 7920
That's even 1000 less than SD845.
I'm not a huawei or kirin hater, but just counting based on what they officially just said.

Kirin 980 will be a great performer and will give better battery life plus the second gen npu will be present. Looking forward to the benchmark scores.

YalokIy, 17 Aug 2018Hm, only 20% more performance over 970. That looks like ca... moreI remember when Huawei announced Kirin 970 they promised 20% improvement in graphics performance from Kirin 960. In reality the difference was much more massive than they claimed, scoring roughly 40% to 100% higher in certain benchmarks.

YalokIy, 17 Aug 2018Hm, only 20% more performance over 970. That looks like ca... moreNobody in their right mind would compare the Kirin 980 with the SD 845 ..... They belong to two different generations and are built of different manufacturing process's ..... The Kirin 970 was always better than the SD 835 ...... Qualcomm had to wait a year and introduce the 845 before it gained the uper hand again ..... My theory as to why they've capped the cores at 2.8 GHz is to vastly improve battery life (Overheating will pretty much be a nonissue with these 7nm chips ...... Most games and apps run flawlessly on the Kirin 970 as it is , so I don't drastic improvements to be made in day to day usage.

xOdd, 17 Aug 2018About calling you kiddo, you called me a "troll".
Been the... moreOk, fair enough.
What do u mean about their boring UI? Skins? Icons? Or the whole theming? Even me hates stocks EMUI theme. But they have hundreds themes, icons, skins to choose from, even can customised it. I customised theme on my own makes EMUI to looks like Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, as i love Sony as well. But as a software features and system? EMUI is top notch.
About using same EMUI across all range, i'm ok with it, as long it performs well and even its the same, there are still hardware limitation. Takes Night Mod update on Mate 10 series, even its the same feature as P20, u will never got the same quality.
And wasnt Sony phones put same software across all their range too? (Experienced it myself). I thought most of other brand also the same.

Shui8, 17 Aug 2018Lol u think ur right and calling me kiddo? Well guess what?... moreAbout calling you kiddo, you called me a "troll".
Been there too since the legendary Nokia brick, and I'm nit against using the same ROM. I'm just against not unleashing the full potential of their flagships. Like c'mon, why would I buy a
900$ phone that has the same ROM as a 350$ device with basically the same smoothness and features. Don't get me wrong, I like their midrangers A LOT, but why can't a decent flagship series like the mates get their own UI? It's the same for literally 4 years and it's annoying and booring. And their code is aging too, hence the recent stutters that reddit is crawling with..
I'm not against their phones, they're on par with Samsung's and Sony's quality. It's just the soul inside of them is non-existant for me..

Hm, only 20% more performance over 970.
That looks like catching up to SD845. Not bad, but was hoping for SD855 level (assuming it will be at least +10% over SD845).

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2018LOL wtf , Samsung? They've always had the laggiest AND the ... moreI have no idea what you're talking about. Samsung Experience does not lag, nor does it force close apps. And it's not the buggiest ROM. This is Samsung we're talking about here, the biggest Android OEM on the planet. If their phones are the buggiest of them all, many tech sites will cover it, and Samsung would had faced a lot of lawsuit by now.
But even though I said all this, Huawei/Honor phones are still at the top of my recommendations when buying a budget/midrange smartphones. Their value is simply amazing.

Wake up, kiddo. The S... moreLol u think ur right and calling me kiddo? Well guess what? I think i'm right too. I'm using phone since Nokia 3210 kiddo.
Its unfortunate that ur jealous on other phone by your huawei's flagship. But i'm not at all. If u like to eat pork, well i dont. Everyone on his each own preference. About using emmc? For the price, i dont have any complain at all as it performs well (Mate 10 use UFS fyi). Hardly any stutter that i found on my EMUI platform. Huawei use same EMUI on all their phone types? Wasnt that a good thing? Low end user got the software features as flagship one, only differentiate in hardware aspects. To me thats how every company should do.
I'll just stop here. Dont like to spreading hates on each other.
