19 August 2018
We've gotten used to fingerprint readers on the back, but mid-range phones with in-display readers are incoming. Is it just a fad?

In display is definitely the future. It will always be faster and more convenient than any iris or facial scanner, as the unlocking is initiated by the user pressing the phone. Well, at least until the day when your phone can read your mind.
I was hoping the Note 9 would have it, but I guess I'll have at least one feature to look forward to with my next phone after the Note 9, in two years... :)

I personally prefer them on the front, always on. That way, just a press of it bypasses the lockscreen and it's just much more convenient that way.
In display is just a gimmick, slower and more expensive.

              Why not?

The aim of finger print scanner is to make phone more secure and bypass password era.

When possible in display, why the sensor should occupy another space? no matter, front, side, back, pen, etc.

The best part is that your display protect it from malfunctioning in case of drop.

If front glass breaks, you will swap it with a new one and sensor works as before.

If you want to keep your phone with broken or highly scratched display, there is nothing to say here.

Finger print readers on the back is best for one reason. if you crack the screen you risk the reader no longer working. where as your not gonna crack the finger print reader on the back and most screens are still viewable and useable with a crack.

yes, in display finger print reader is the future and it will improve over time. but for me, it is more convenient to have it on the side, but for me it is much better if it's on the back of the phone and nice if it has gestures feature like the one in Oneplus 5T.

I've owned a Sony Xperia Z5, with a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It was by far the best fingerprint reader I've used. In a matter of days I simply forgot it was there and its use became implicit.

I use a Huawei P20 Lite now and, although the reading process is faster, i'm still aware of the gesture two months after having purchased the phone...

With time, they'll grow more accurate so yeah
