Android has matured to the point where its irrelevant whether you have the latest and greatest or not. Its just a thing to complain about. Samsung is the key innovator in Android to the extent that even Google copies Samsung. That was then and now the Chinese phones are the innovators in being first in line to do xyz. People cry about security but as long as you're sticking to the App Store and official apps. Nothing will happen.

Thats really bad , i am using j7 2017 and it hasnot received oreo update while j5 is getting it.
Its really unfair by samsung

See j5 201u model gets Android 8.1 It is medium range mobile in india. Just 12k price range. But flagship model S9+ almost rs. 70,000 in India but still it is with Android 8.0. No update so far. Friends I am hard core Samsung fan. But my interest in Samsung is slowly diminishing. Because of update, othere features in the UI. I feel very bad for buying S9+...

I actually liking this kind of update. We all know how much problem unstable latest android gives. Waiting a year to update the android version after it is all completely stable and no bug is wise in my opinion. Imagine If they rushed and put oreo 8.0 on this instead with all the bugs and no time to fix it with dozens of phone model still in pending list. Yeah, more problem for Samsung. I also need to point out at Google why they keep releasing buggy android. It preventing other oems from updating as fast as possible. All the delay due to bugs. *sigh

something wrong here. midrange device got 8.1 and flagship/ex-flagship only 8.0? i know 8.1 only an incremental update but at least treat your customer the same way

Don't dwell much on software updates, as they just make you impatient. Love your phone as it is. As it your Samsung Experience has countless features that won't even be there in stock Android 10.0.

RIP my Redmi 5 Plus, which will take forever to get 8.1
Seeing how MIUI 10 Beta is plagued with dozens of bugs and other errors, I believe it would take several more months before finally becoming officially released as Stable version.
I just can't think as to why no one's making a big change to address this issue! I think every Android OEM should at least invest for a software department.
