Original-Jamaican, 02 Sep 2018I would understand if you said that Xiaomi latest phones lo... moreI didn't say that the latest Xiaomi phones don't look like iPX, I only said that the P20 does. The P20 has only two cameras, only the Pro adds another. Xiaomi's not really an innovator but at least they don't pretend that they are (beyond the Mix) and brainwash people. I criticize Huawei for their brainwash and hypocrisy. Just a couple years back they were shaming Samsung's and Apple's camera humps, now look at their huge camera hump.
Where exactly has Huawei made a positive difference again? They slap German brands on their phones as facade for their copying, they used a little graphene to dissipate heat from their batteries and called it "graphene battery", they had significant presence and technological experience in telecoms before they entered smartphones so would you believe that their dismal 4G modems up to around Kirin 950 was unintentional, or just milking their brainwashed fanboys? And up until just last generation their Wifi modem was Broadcom's, lol.
They license a NPU over from Cambricon and pretend it's a big breakthrough, yet, as I repeatedly questioned but was never answered, where's the performance advantage? It's not like "Master AI" was receiving any praise or their pseudo long exposure mode was much more than multiframe NR and pulling a curve. And almost no mention of "AI" performance beyond that.
They bought the better half of Nokia's old Pureview team yet go look on Allaboutsymbian and Allaboutwindowsphone for the crop comparisons, they obviously pushed the engineers to do cheap smearing sharpening over detail retention, nothing like what Nokia aimed for. The team would be much better off in other hands too, waste of talent at Huawei.
I only have one Apple device and that's the iPP first gen. It failed as a productivity device and for me the Pencil especially didn't work out, I didn't find so many problems with it otherwise, it's great for games and video and since its battery life is incredible I often use it for reading. As for the sound emitting screen, I don't think this is anything new as substituting the earpiece with a piezoelectric motor was seen in at least 2014 IIRC in a Sharp model, this is basically ramping that up which I also don't think is a good idea seeing how Xiaomi just used the motor in Mix 1 yet reverted to a regular earpiece in Mix2, it probably doesn't sound good, and you can bet it doesn't feel good to hold. Sony's used that on a TV, but that's a TV.
On the other hand, Apple's always delivered class leading speaker quality. I hope Samsung doesn't take this unnecessary risk and also don't think Apple will follow.

S Yu, 02 Sep 2018" the P20s camera flash is below the cameras whereas the X ... moreI would understand if you said that Xiaomi latest phones look like the iPhone X. Since the Redmi Note 5 Pro, basically all of Xiaomi phones look like a blatant copy of the iPhone X. There's a vast difference with three cameras instead of two and a different positioning of the flash so I don't see it as being logical in saying that the P20 Pro is a copy of the X.
Huawei reminds me of Siemens back in the day, an innovator. Samsung is surely an innovator and in my view the first true smartphone innovators but they were bigger innovators with the S series raising the bar up to the S5. After that upgrades were incremental. However, Samsung basically started the phablet trend with the Note series then Apple followed and called their phones 'Plus' which was a poor copied effort seeing that their bezels was a disgrace. The iPhone Plus bezels are terribly huge. The 5.7 inch display Galaxy Note 4 has smaller dimensions than the iPhone 6 Plus and lets not get into which one is more feature rich by light years.
While being on the topic of Samsung, Apple decided to follow the S8 slim trim bezels and aspect ratio. It's a pity Apple can't follow Samsung and implement the same feature rich technology so that it can stop being such a featureless non-smartphone. The official reviewer Eldar Murtazin read my mind when he posted his review on the iPhone saying that after dissecting the OS etc. he cannot list the iPhone as being a smartphone...a sentiment I myself shared before his review. Apple evangelists all over the world hacked his page after he made that statement but the truth was still told about the iPhone and the truth hurt. Since we are on a S10 post lets not leave out that upcoming phone. According to sources the S10 will emit sound from it's display rather than having traditional speakers. Guess who may copy that feature in September next year along with other S10 features?
Apple was more of an innovator during the ingenious Steve Jobs tenure. When he passed on the innovations passed on as well.
Features like dual cameras was available before iPhone started offering them and last but not least, 3D Touch wasn't available on the iPhone first. Guess which smartphone it debuted on? That's your assignment.

Original-Jamaican, 01 Sep 2018Another thing. You can't say Huawei carbon copied the iPhon... more" the P20s camera flash is below the cameras whereas the X flash is between the cameras".
Wow you caught me. Amazing efforts from Huawei to make such a huge design innovation! Then by contrast the iP6 most certainly looks less like the M7 than P20 the iPX, they changed the curves and the thickness of the antenna bands and some button placements etc. wow, such originality.
Apple claimed to have invented the notch? No, not only the flat notch, the whole idea of the notch? I don't think so. On the other hand, Apple still had patents for the notch design long before the release of those models while Huawei claimed originality to the whole notch idea without so much as a patent to back that up, their engineer just claimed in an interview that they thought of it first but didn't implement it in mass production models, lmao.
You've seen the Kirin 980 announcement? So many "world first" yet only the modem was their technology, the rest is them doing the announcement work for ARM and Cambricon. To their fanboys Huawei deserves credit for all that and is already their savior in the struggle against the oppression of imperialist America!

S Yu, 30 Aug 2018iPX had a different notch, both those phones you mentioned ... moreAnother thing. You can't say Huawei carbon copied the iPhone X when the P20s camera flash is below the cameras whereas the X flash is between the cameras. Also though Sharp and Essential's notch may have a different shape they are still notches and they were on the market before the X. Apple changed the shape but stole the idea from those manufacturers. Just like how they followed the Pantech GI100, Toshiba G500/G900 and the Motorola Atrix (the very first three manufacturers in the world to offer fingerprint technology in a phone) in using fingerprint technology and had the nerve to say they were the first. Apple wasn't the first with a smartwatch, nor the first with widgets or notification panels but they would love to brainwash the Apple fans into thinking so. Is it so hard for people to see that Apple is the biggest copycat???

S Yu, 30 Aug 2018iPX had a different notch, both those phones you mentioned ... moreEither way you can't have uniqueness in every smartphone that's release. Just like every other product out there, some stuff will start looking like others.

Original-Jamaican, 28 Aug 2018To S YU:
I constantly say that at some point in time tod... moreiPX had a different notch, both those phones you mentioned had a u shaped notch while the iPX was the first with a flat notch, Huawei carbon copied iPX's back (P20, only paintjob change) while making an inferior copy of the front, if they opted for the u shaped notch instead the copying wouldn't have been so evident.
iP6 also had an unoriginal design that looked too much like HTC M7, but for iPX you don't have a proper argument.
Three cameras are also not created equal, there were dual camera models before Huawei for example but last year they launched a campaign claiming "dual camera heritage" or something like that pretending dual cameras are their signature while they've only been at it for a couple of years. They can in fact claim originality for the color+mono solution but not for the dual camera concept in whole.
There's no need to wait until next year, already a new triple camera model from Oppo adds a third camera acting solely as a depth sensor. Next year Samsung's rumored to go the UWA+WA+normal/long focus route, and all these solutions are distinct from Huawei's solution. If you say this is copying then Huawei's pseudo long exposure mode most certainly copied multiframe NR from compacts years ago.

Not everyone is eagerly giving their fingerprints. I have the S8+ for about a week now and I never touched the fingerprint scanner or turned on the iris scanner.
The iris scanner is actually covered with a sticker right now :))
So giving me the in-display fingerprint scanner is actually making me say pass just because of that.
In 5 years you'll be asked to give your spitt or blood lmao.

And a probable price of $15,000 attached to it! No thanks, Sammy. I rather buy a cheap car. In addition, a locked down ecosystem where I can't root or Mod. anything with a carrier version! Chinese phones starting to look better and cheaper by the day. I've never owned an I-phone but recent lockdown on bootloaders tempt me. At lest with an I-phone I'll get updates timely. Either that, or I see me starting a new patter where I will have to wait a year and get last year's model at a discount. Int he old days new phones came with new tech included. These prices are getting out of hand with the excuse of new "tech" available.
