After having my 7 freak out because it got damp from sweat in my pocked and not ringing or getting any audio out because of apparently some moisture in the jack, I'm not disappointed to lose it at all. Thought I was going to have to send it for warranty until it finally dried out after 5 hours.

Downgrades compared to the Axon 7:
- Higher price
- Less durable
- Fragile glass-back
- Slippery and Fingerprint magnet
- Larger bezels (or lower Screen to Body ratio)
- Curved 2.5D front glass (bad/no Glass Screen Protectors)
- Intrusive notch and weird asymmetrical design
- Lower screen resolution
- Worse quality rear-camera (the DualCam is gimmick/marketing)
- No front-firing loudspeaker
- No stereo speakers (it has a monospeaker plus earpiece, that's 1.5 speakers not 2)
- No headphone jack with QuadDAC
- Downgraded to USB 2.0, instead of USB 3.1
+ Battery is non-removable (but I won't neg this too much, as they've finally added ingress protection albeit a weaker one compared to the Samsung S8 Active/LG V30/iPhone X)
This would be great as a $300 iPhone ripoff, like that Lenovo. Its not great for proper phone use for enthusiasts and the challenges of real-world scenarios/practicality. It's form over function, and not what made the Axon7 popular in the first place. Heck why would anyone get this over a Xiaomi Mi8 or a OnePlus 6.

Now, why not just create a new axon 7 like device with the current chipset and 18:9 screen ratio and up the price by $50 or so from the axon 7? is that so hard ?! I ask myself if these manufacturers are deliberately making phones that people do not wish to buy...

It was really looking good, until I read "the 3.5mm headphone jack is gone".
What a dampener! So sad, because it really looked promising.

To governments probably, since they want to hold China's growth in 5G as much as possible. It's typical from them to try to protect their industry, not surprised if they try to pull the same thing on Huawei since they overtook Apple but would be more difficult since they are a tougher beast to handle as they don't depend on US chips and the US market.

Specs are interesting I missed out on the Axon 7, don't really mind the notch not really a deal breaker, I'm looking at Axon 9 Pro, LG V40, Huawei Mate 20 Pro or One Plus 6T do be a daily driver to replace my Galaxy S8 which I currently have atm. Hope it will be available in a global version/unlocked, is a bummer that it won't be released here in the U.S.

Also oled screen meaning that it doesn't matter that it has a notch. You can hide it in oled screen. So much better than having a dumb bezel.

camera spec seem nice on paper.. kinda remind me of lg V series but without headphone jack and dedicated dac.. THIS could easily be a right competitor to LG phone but ZTE messed it up .. become inconsistent and not worthy to be a proper successor to Axon 7.
disappointed.

Now, on amazon.de, OnePlus 6 (128 GB) it's just a little over 500 EUR! I can't see Axon 9 sold in October/ November in Germany for 650 EUR!

1. Way to big! This is not an updated Axon 7, this is a mini tablet!!!
2. No stereo speakers. Great speakers + Dolby Atmos was one of the Axon 7 strong points.
3. No 3.5 mm jack.

C'mon ZTE, you could just polish a little Axon 7, put SD 845 inside (and eventually 128 GB), and also you could make a red and a dark blue options and... count $$$.
Axon is 9 totally disappointing!

No one's gonna pay that much for a ZTE. They're being unrealistic. Especially as their reputation has been damaged even more lately
