no need to go full bezel less if there's still a chin at the bottom, and actualy left & right bezel help to prevent accidental touch screen press when holding phone with single hand

kiasunkiasi, 04 Sep 2018as the other guy pointed out, it's similar to Nokia N95 I ... moreAll things considered, the Vivo Nex S solution is better. But even better is no mechanical portions like the LG V20 putting extra screen space on the bezel, a proto-notch.

I guess a notch isn't a bad thing on its own. It's only bad when it's huge/ugly like the iPhone X and it's symmetrical and it has curved 2.5D sides and its mated to a weird/useless 20:9 aspect ratio that's definitely a gimmick.

I was a N95 user for 2~3 years yet my N95 didn't disappoint me, so nope, I have more faith in the mechanism than you

But anyways, I also think anything is possible, hence that's where creations stem from in the first place so it's good to see a like-minded individual like you.

Well, that thing is going to be damaged in no time with all the movable parts....

                Nokia N95 8GB?

I think this will be a better concept compared to the automated pop-up like oppo/vivo. With this, the phone will be more manually controlled by the owner and it will be more reliable. Xiaomi just needs to make sure that the slider is durable enough in the long run and shall maintain the 7mm-8mm of thickness. I just hope they will succeed in this design concept.

Well, and here I was saying that 2018 was gonna be the year of the notch. Looks like I wasn't completely right

Yet still has a chin, nice try.

A submarine has huge mechanical hatches and is rated a bit more than "good for 6 feet for an hour". It's not hard to separate the mechanism from the electronics and internals.
It's also not hard to make a simple mechanism like this durable enough to last well beyond multiple expected life times of a smartphone.
Thickness might be a minor issue, at least if you'll only look for 6mm phones. Though, the actual size of the phone will allow for a big battery without much thickness. They'll have to sacrifice the headphone jack, but even I would be okay with that if the trade-off is a true bezel and notch free phone.

So it will be the first phone in the market with a slider and a 5G and it will stay in 2018 year number with the new SD8xx
But what you do with that 5G if it's not widely used as it's still very new. So you may waith years before your area is covered with it.

We are talking about 7mm at most, having "stolen' this to create a notch everyone who comes up with another solution other than make the handset 7mm taller we have this

                            Here are reasons why
First any mechanism adds to the overall thickness of the phone

SECOND, you lose IP67 & IP68 definitely won't be waterproof any longer

Third mechanism may break additionally in the future, there will be a phone released 7mm taller

Soo we're back to slide phone era heh... :D
The flex better be good, since all of slide phone back in the day always had flex problem.
