Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 980 CPU core frequencies finally revealed

05 September 2018
Clock speeds are still far from ARM and TSMC's projected clocks in their papers.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2018same goes for you (do your research) https://www.anandtech... moreThat's one soc. We are talking about almost 10 years of generations in comparison and it's not even including the one you are showing.. that's an entirely different set up and clearly has a slightly GPU score. Which is well known.
Again....you need to do some research and maybe learn some logic and respect

Bewildered , 06 Sep 2018First and foremost the Kirin 9 is the first (again?) 7nm 5G... moreThe 855 is for phones.

The 850 is a rebranded 845 for laptops.

The 1000 is a new series with the same cores used on the 855.

Sparkxster, 06 Sep 2018From the leaked benchmark results of the snapdragon 855 and... moreAhem. Huawei admitted cheating. The K980 is thus (presumably significantly) less powerful than the recorded benchmark.

*I say significantly because what's the point in cheating just to get a few more points to use in advertising? Might as well cheat full throttle and get bigger advertisement

A bench is supposed to translate a device's processing power in numbers. Turbo only in a benchmark shows a level of processing power that is beyond what the device can actually do.

A phone runs a marathon, not a simple daily 100m race.

AnonD-558092, 06 Sep 2018I don't get the point behind two A76 clusters. Why not just... morethere's a big difference between in-order and out-of-order architectures, it's not just a matter of frequencies and voltage... and also, even when a certain design is underclocked/downvolted or overclocked/overvolted its performance per watt ratio won't stay the same, simply put each design has its own "sweet spot", meaning it's more efficient when running with certain specs.
Surely some companies are abusing some branding to impress the public... but it's not all a plot to extort more money from the people. it's not the companies' fault if people are dumb or ignorant.

Adreno completely outclassed Mali in anything thrown at them. Now we're on planet earth. Maybe in some distant parallel universe there's reversed scenario.

ZolaIII, 06 Sep 2018It won't, quite opposite. Maybe if we started using "less is better" logic in geek bench. Anything other than that is pure schizophrenia.

The Snapdragon 845 which adorns the latest flagship phones is 4G manufactured on 10nm process
                                https://www.gsmarena.com/qualcomm_snapdragon_855_possibly_benchmarked_matches_apples_a11_bionic-news-33078.php

GSMA have written an article on this already so I hope you agree with my thinking here

Primarily this is a 4G Soc reasons no hoopla re 5G, no hoopla re 7nm and Microsoft involvement
As Microsoft last phone release was 2015 and having now left phone production altogether this 855 like the article states will almost certainly be a laptop / PC affair
This "855 or whatever" is a laptop PC equivalent / tweak of the phones Snapdragon 845

Finally The benchmarks scores are way to low to be anything else and to end NO HOOPLA which would accompany such an announcement.

I did read also that it is hoped that Qualcomm tidy up its nomenclature so that you can tell phone SoC to Laptop SoC

In many cases Mali was actually ahead or ahead through longetivty and consistency.
And even where adreno was ahead it's still usually not by much. And 99% of the time the Qualcomm soc used more power winning or losing benchmark.

We will see whats will going on.
