Nokia officially announces the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 710

So this is Stephen Elop's solution to iOS and Android ?? Really ? 2 years twiddling your thumbs while HTC and Samsung and Apple ( a one product pc compnay) tear you a new one and this is the best you can do ?? They need to fire Elop because he is doing everything in his power to bankrupt Nokia so that Microsoft can take it over. How is nokia going to stand out from the crowd when they are producing an OS that both Samsung, HTC, and others have been using for years ? They could have tossed in a few android phones to the mix. Atleast that way they would have made some money. But the great monkey[ or double agent] in charge thought it was better to put all of their eggs in one basket so that when NOkia fails, and it shall, Microsoft will be there for NOkia's fire sale.

Great and beautiful phone, but its only kind of sad for us N8 users that we wont be looking to "upgrade" to the Lumia 800 since it does not have nearly the same features as the N8.. Im talking about 12mp camera, front facing camera, bluetooth a2dp connectivity, and most important for me - HDMI out and USB connection.
I love the Lumia's design but I wont change my N8 for a phone with less specs. That would be "downgrading".
Best regards,

AnonD-13154, 26 Oct 2011You really believe windows phone can change into Android ki... moreYou are under the impression that for WP7 to win, it has to play by your rules. At the end of the day, the one that wins the hearts of customers, wins. By your rules, iOS should be dead and nothing but dust by now, yet it thrives, despite all the protestations by Android fanboys.
Having the advantage of learning from both iOS and Android, isn't it telling how Microsoft has decided to go for a more iOS integrated approach, while retaining slightly more flexibility. Also, like Apple, there is an emphasis on user experience, with tech specs playing a more supportive role, using the correct amount of technology to get the job done.
It is my opinion (I could be wrong) that the WP7 is the start of something massive, and the other manufacturers will start paying more attention to WP7.

AnonD-4697, 26 Oct 2011Well I use Android, iOS and Symbian, my best experience was... moreMy experience with linux rests in ubuntu 9.0 (didnt got time to go for 10) and its a lot good than windows 7.
I agree its 'complicated' for first users, but it allows freedom unlike windows.
And after my open-os experience in mobile handsets too, I really believe in the concept that 'unless they allow you to change it you dont have to pay for it'.
So I am proud to say I have used only pirated versions of windows till date and would continue to do so.
Recently from your prev link I heard that samsung is going to make bada open os too.
So, congrats to samsung.
By the way, windows softwares can be run in ubuntu using wine, I havent tried adobe yet, but now I am gonna.
Apart from the above -
Man, you already own and going to buy most of the phones Me and many thousands dream of, do you own any mobile shop or something?
However I wont be choosing e7,800 or 4s. May be the xperia active, i'm so obsessed after watching its 'city surfer ad'

AnonD-1082, 26 Oct 2011Having great specs means nothing if the OS and apps are not... moreAndroid lags with Dual Core?? Are you kidding me? I saw a GS2 with my eyes, and it works perfect. I know that Android require a faster CPU, and 1.2 GHZ Dual Core is enough. I just hate the Menu of WP. The old Windows Mobile 6.5 was much cooler. The icons looks cool. Now the whole Menu looks strange!! :( If they will change it, then I will probably buy some Nokia phones. By the way the new OS lacks some basic things. Too sad!!

AnonD-13154, 26 Oct 2011I dont think going brand-oriented is always good.
Howeve... moreWell I use Android, iOS and Symbian, my best experience was iOS, Android is great in some terms others I really don like it, Symbian was good but now is a little "left" in performance and innovation...
However I use Atrix 2, iPhone 3gs (soon to be changed for a 4S) and Nokia E7 (hope to get Nokia 800) and everyone has their strong and weak point, but I found a lot of more problems in Android Market than Apple Store, Nokia Market is still immature.
But have an Open OS has two sides, and make it full of crappy Apps that don't work at all, in fact for every 1 App useful I found 100 of crap. :(
Also in Linux, their "alternatives" are full of SHT Linux still in "pampers" in many areas, from hardware compatibility to a REAL software apps..or real alternatives...
Their (awful) versions of Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and Edito Pro are crappy as crap...sorry but I only use to hear every year..."Man, this will be the Year of Linux" and I hear that same sound from over 8 years, No way, I still get Windows over any of the 100's distros around....

AnonD-11450, 26 Oct 2011And now i ve finally decided to go for sonyericsson.... It ... moreI dont think going brand-oriented is always good.
However, if you are intending to buy a phone from 5k rs range, best option is cedar.
If its 14k best one is xperia mini. Both these are based on real user experience
Anywhere else I dont think se is best. May be their upcoming nozomi can be something to be thought of. But not now.

AnonD-4697, 26 Oct 2011Just remember Open is not always good...
If you don't be... moreThe closest android experience I have came across is with my brother's xperia mini.
Damn that phone is the best in range.
So far he hasnt came across any sort of millions of viruses even though he lurks in app store all the time,
However the open- filesystem experience I got is right now in my hands.
Crazy you may feel, the low-budget feature phone. Sony's cedar.
Just because its open, I was able to do things you won't even believe. Right now my bro's 14k smartphone's and my feature phone's icons are the same.
Thats because of open-os and is it in anyway bad to appreciate it? I dont think so.
Now thats something nokia didnt gave me during my half decade of brand loyal buying.
I'm enjoying freedom.
Really Hopes that with the upcoming 'meltemi' replacement, nokia too would join the open-os movement.
Nb: if anyone is intending to frame me as any sort of fanboy or troller, I suggest you read both my prev. Posts.

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2011Get a life ....nothing is free market everything is closed ... moreOh yeah.
I'm paying the so-called open companies not because of any stupid loyalty thing as you said, because they allow me to change stuff as I want it.
You are buying the phone means you should have some control over how it works.
Microsoft is acting as if we are renting and not buying it hence they lock down the file system. And you desire for that, being locked up ?

AnonD-4697, 26 Oct 2011Just remember Open is not always good...
If you don't be... moreYou have no idea about open source, do you?? The thing that makes Linux secure is its solid, clean, security architecture which is a Unix heritage (like strict access privilege separation) from time immemorial. And being open source, any vulnerabilities are fixed almost as soon as it is discovered, simply because it has more eyes and hands working on them from all around the globe, round the clock. Windows, on the other hand, has a pretty floppy security architecture (because that was not their original priority) and has created an excellent market for anti-virus makers. Just check on the net how many servers and supercomputers run Linux/Unix and how many run Windows.. No company in their right mind would deploy mission critical applications on Windows servers.
That aside, I'm not sure how much of Linux's inherent strengths on security has Google used in Android, since I hear a lot about Android viruses.

really questioning nokia's decision making here. the 800 and 710 are too closely matched; why spend an extra 100 plus for 800. the 710 would make a terrific symbian belle phone with an auto focus cam (fixed sux). i really thought meego was the answer nokia was looking for to challenge android and apple. if you've ever played with the n9 in person, you'd know right away that it was fun, unique and gorgeous. i don't blame elop for going with mango 7.5 because microsoft is "too big too fail", and nokia is just hedging their bets.

I'm not impressed. Where is my penta-band HSPA? If Nokia starts shipping the same stripped down phones as Samsung et al, I won't buy em anymore.

AnonD-4697, 26 Oct 2011Just remember Open is not always good... If you don't be... moreI'll take an Open system over Apple's closed off proprietary garbage any day of the week. Been using Android for a while and haven't had a single so-called "virus". If you install something that obviously looks suspicious then you only have yourself to blame.
