No phone in 2018 is 5G ready, because Qualcomm hadn't released the Snapdragon 855 yet.

            Next time, fact check properly.

Sony mentioned 5G at its IFA presentation. That was more of a dog whistle to its INVESTORS, telling them that its failing mobile division was still relevant and forward-looking. That's all.

Most of the apps are still supported so no issues there for me and even games like PUBG runs as great as midrange phones. I will agree you on the vulnerability as the last security patch dates back to August 2016.
But whole point is whether phone survives or not and it surely survives and 5G “might“ arrive until 2020(XZ3 will be supported till 2020)& XZ3 user will have no worries.

AnonD-790664, 07 Sep 2018What??? Using phone for 5 yrs is impossible. Really? Typi... moreYou probably had to replace the battery. And also had to moderate your application needs. The Snapdragon 801 is simply outperformed by midrange SoCs (the Exynos 7870 for instance) and also cannot execute 64 bit apps.
Let's not mention your apps are ultra vulnerable as your phone is unpatched since years, ie to Spectre and Meltdown.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2018Such as photos taken by Canon and advertised as from the ph... moreExactly. Its like filters/AI you use on photos, its about catching attention. If its about benchmarks, its well known long ago, even more now that everyone cheats. Whats more important is they got original kirin, not like 835 you will find even on midrange-priced phones already.
What I did mean though is all new popular features, least of bezels, big battery, thin&light, animoji, more lenses and noiseless pics.
Though being camera centric is important, so is giving all others features, if they lack just one, its enough to consider somthing else. Basically you choose between a phones with a lot of features based on which one got your favourite feature better. Sony actually even lacks features you would like to compare.

JohnW1981, 06 Sep 2018Except the tweet doesn't say the XZ3 is 5G readyI was just giving a possible explanation. Turns out it isn't 5G ready, but if it was it would be because they included an X50 modem, just like I said.

Typing this from my Moto X 2014 which still works like champ(Which will definitely work next year).

But heck, 5 years? Nah, most people would have changed their smartphones by then
