What's next for smartphone design?

With display going over the edge literally, with idea of covering entire front and more, main design of the front will be screen tech, UI or always on style. Back will be fight between camera and gaming style, with multiple lens and colors play(be it paint or leds) and maybe external cooling support.
Would be interesting to see phones going beyond traditional boxy design just to stay different and cool, like using scrolling, folding and adding more screen not just in straight lines.
Surely some parts will leave a phone in the future, like jack and some hw buttons did, to be just made virtual or external, like watches, action cameras. With camera and screen going external, like ar glasses with cameras, all that will be left is watch like device, surely will be way better to differentiate with design.
Hopefully won't end up with adds on a phone to get it cheaper, but its very possible.

Well, a foldable phone would be truly refreshing, for sure
But would it actually be good-looking ? Or nice to use ?
To me it seems that they don't know what to do anymore, so they try to go weird. Because anything different, relevant or not, would be really appreciated
For sure, the slab design did peaked with the Find X.
Now anything that will came after, at least in the Slab form, will be either equal or inferior.
About that Foldable phone, Samsung might be the first but the phone will be really expensive, about 2000$. So Innovation induced design is for the rich (Find X, Galaxy F) and generic soul-less phones are for the poor and ugly. That's not nice.

Only Steve Jobs (if he were alive) would know what the future design smartphone would be, and I'm sure that he would have created already it and put it on sale, and all the other brands would start copying the design with lower prices, or not ?.

Bring back visible screws (like the HTC HD mini).
Make a mirror back (stainless or glass), remove the selfie cam and put a decent sensor on the back.
Make a back that bleeds colors from the screen edges so we get a color-changing back depending on the contents....

To me galaxy S & Note series have more useful design and nothing unusual like screen cut out, no headphone jack etc, if they had front faceing stereo speaker it would have been most perfect but I guess we can't have it all.

Certainly, the new type interfaces to dominate the next Blackberry or iPhone...I think Voice Assistances are taking one step at a time, Holographic displays could be a possibility....I feel non-intrusive interface with good battery life could be an evolutionary first step (if not revolutionary one)
