Too hard. Too may things to consider, lack of carrier support amongst other etc . . . Maybe the setup works better in a few years.

Wilto, 13 Sep 2018Lol . The way dual SIM functionality is explained makes me laughyup, precisely what I wanna say...

Why not just keep thing actually simple and give everyone the actual dual Sim iPhone xs Max instead.
In fact, if it is possible, we can even have 3 sim card iPhone ( 2 usual 1 plus 1 eSim).

Based on our network performance (our country just recently got 4G, we'll get eSIM sometime after 2030. So until then, iPhone users here would still be holding their new toy and the old one packed together in one hand with both logos out for maximum brag power.

First of all you have to accept that an Esim is essentially like having a Komodo Dragon guarding your phone
The number one weakness is remote anti theft command and /searching are disabled once your sim card is removed, which no longer applies if you have an Esim.
Like CDMA phones which requires the network to activate your phone, you can't change the sim so can't use the phone on other network.
If not for the fact that very few networks support Esim this interim need for a physical sim card has been adopted by Apple
Instead of the multitude of sim cards each network has to recognise the one sim
If I guess right a dual sim allows you to travel e.g. holiday work abroad, and the standard single sim, travelling abroad you effectively disable the Home sim card and use a Local network so avoiding international call charges to physical locations in the travelled to location
This will be a first, where Apple leads. I am not a fan of Apple but on this networks are being pushed to adopt eSim

So only china will get real dual-sim support... That's absurd. Clearly there is enough space to house two-sim cards, so then why not make it like that world-wide?
