Dissecting the Apple iPhone XR: what you gain vs what you lose

13 September 2018
Possibly the most interesting iPhone to launch this year.

Compare the $999 X (64 GB) vs $799 XR (128 GB), and the 10R makes the 10th anniversary iPhone look like a loser. That's why the X was discontinued right away. Completely pointless to have the X when the XR beats it in value and the XS succeeds over it.

In most areas, the 10R beats the 10. Better SoC, newer camera, same amount of RAM, better color options, and best battery life among the new iPhones. I'm also not a fan of OLED with that blue light shift that can lead us faster to blindness.

All I want -

128 GB MINIMUM
Great battery life

Done. XR delivers them in spades.

The 10R is the best valued iPhone since the SE. The SE was the only iPhone priced less than its true value.

So how thick does a bottom bezel have to be to not be considered a chin? Because this one looks rather big if you look more closely. It just has massive side bezels to conceal the chin. It's all about perception.

This looks like it will be the go to iPhone for most people though, I hope they found a better solution for the fake HDR display. I personally think the iPhone Xs Max looks amazing, but I can't justify that price. It's overpriced even for an Apple product.

ok. i am going to break from gsm arena. iphone has taken over all your stories. its annoying lol.

Yup that is the phone I am looking forward to. Paying 1000$+ on a phone is too much.

good phone!!! lame display and 999$ price tag in Europe

Most exciting iPhone launched this year? It's absolutely dreadful at the price they are asking. A true Apple fan can see that, surely? Why would anyone pay a flagship price for something that isn't anywhere close to a flagship? There isn't anything premium about it. The bezels are big enough to not need a notch. I cannot see anything premium about it, except the price.
My advice as a techie would be to buy an iPhone 8 or 8+ if you cannot afford the XS or XS Max.

Great Article. If you are really after a 2018 iPhone, I believe the $799 128GB iPhone XR represents the best value.

In additional to having the best battery endurance of the three models, the A12 Bionic coupled with that lower resolution will probably make the XR a true beast, crushing all performance benchmarks. I for one will be very interested to know the GPU frame rates.
