Plastic can be durable - Pocophone F1 torture test confirms it

14 September 2018
It may pick up a few scratches, but can otherwise take a beating.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2018I'm affraid you;re hoping for too much. Manufacturers do... moreI wouldn't go as far as saying they lack vision. In fact, Xiaomi was the first to introduce near bezelless designs. After 3 years of plain Android, I actually find MIUI more to my liking. That apart, I do wish Xiaomi and others stop copying for the sake of it. Just don't see the point of notches. And just when everybody figured out minimal bezels, instead of putting in bigger screens within the same footprint, OEMs simply go larger. But yes, plastic is a good return. Hope one-handed phones return too.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2018I'm affraid you;re hoping for too much. Manufacturers do... moreYou definitely wrong anonymous

Xiaomi has Vision thats why they called themself internet company, not phone company.
They make online selling first and others follow (oneplus, honor, realme) and many more example
Become big company in less than 10 years and has biggest IPO in history is a proof for you to understand
On design wise : you are forget Mi Mix it has beautiful design and original (unless you think it copy sharp , then definitely you don't know what design is)
This is budget phone, i dont expect revolutionary design, i expect best performance in budget

Essen, 15 Sep 2018Wonderful to read. It was time people, especially reviewers... moreI'm affraid you;re hoping for too much.

Manufacturers don't read these posts and I doubt that they even read the reviews on this (or similar websites).

I too want common sense to return and also hope for a version of this phone without noth, RGB-notification LED and IR-blaster. For all care the other components my remain the same. I'd pay gladly a little bit more but obviously not 900 euro's.

But since Xiaomi is a company that lacks any vision or design structure at all I doubt this will happen. They just churn out devices with whatever they can find and hope one of them sticks. We are doomed!

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2018Have fun with your plastic bloatware phone...So you find it okay to pay more to get less?

Well it seems the brand-propaganda worked then.

My opinion is that if manufacturers charge more then should add MORE features instead of removing features (like audio-jack and IR-blaster). When the Samsung galaxy S5 came out that device had everything. All the I/O possible at that time including an optional QI-charging backcover. Why isn't that possible anymore?

Besides an audio jack and notification LED are IMHIO essential parts of ANY phone so it shouldn't be a question of whether a phone has it or not!

In the case of the pocophone you pay less so I'm okay to make some compromises But I'd rather wanted them to slightly increase the price and complete the device with every I/O possible including RGB-notification LED and IR-blaster. Now it is still a compromised device and I hate making compromises. I doubt that adding these 2 items would increase the selling price significantly.

The only important software compromise made is the exclusion of that netflix HD codec. Which is also missing on most other 300 Euro phones (including my own Honor 8).

It's clear though, that I (and I'm sure many others) will not pay over 500 euros again for a phone with similar specs and even more compromises. I'm not going to trade in an audio-jack for a glass back (which you'll hide under a plastic cover anyway).

It doesn't mean that I'm going to get this phone though. True end-user reviews report light bleeding at the bottom o/t screen so there are unfortunately QC issues with this phone which is enough to steer me away.

Wonderful to read. It was time people, especially reviewers, stop salvating over pointless, premium crackable glass and dingable and dentable metal. For anyone who thinks plastic feels poor to touch, please handle the Sony Compacts or the old Nokia Lumias and Moto Droids. Real beauty is one that can face life head on. And not hide behind ugly cases like premium glass and metal phones do. I hope Xiaomi/Poco can bring in a 5-5.2 inch notchless version of this that's operable by one hand. With the return of sensible plastic, I hope it's the advent of the end of the dark ages and the return of one-hand operability, pocketability, removable batteries, right angled screen corners return doing away with notches, curved screens, and other pointless, premium, expensive nonsense. Or am I hoping for too much?

I am wondering why glass back on a phone became so popular. I know that there is need for wireless charging, but plastic and metal are better.
Back of my phone is made of aluminium. I always have tempered glass and TPU case. Once, I accidentally dropped phone from 2 meters. I lifted it, and it wasn't damaged at all. If that was glass back, it would probably be shattered.

The only debates were about metal vs plastic. Also glass is not being adopted for build quality. Its being adopted for a more premium feel and in some cases wireless charging

The Pocophone would've been good if it weren't for the lack of Widevine L1 codec. I need a phone that can do HD/QHD/4K HDR video. Now I understand the importance of those features hidden to the masses and so I'd rather buy a more expensive one.

Well Zack Nelson his true name proven the 300 euros phone is as good in quality as the Note 9 and a lot cheaper.
                                    Good work Zack.

This shows no compromise in durability . Phone of the year for sure

Galaxy Note 9, 14 Sep 2018They all blamed Samsung for plastic all those days where it... moreThat holds true to my Galaxy S3.
The outside (physical state) is not broken, thanks to the plastic build that survives even on numerous falls on stairs.

The reason I didn't used it anymore was the battery. (It's rare to buy Galaxy S3 batteries now)

If one company realized that plastic should be back at least on the flagship line, that's a great start like the F1.
