Plastic can be durable - Pocophone F1 torture test confirms it

They all blamed Samsung for plastic all those days where it provided removable battery etc.....I never had a broken mobile. Plastic with proper insulation (Carbon fibre like) can last long. Also, I don't think (My personal opinion) a small slab of aluminium or stainless steel can differentiate cost HUGE! This is to create product segmentation and try to increase cost for nothing. I can understand camera modules, processor, memory components, other sensors can contribute to the increased cost but as far as BOM is concerned, a plastic vs metal cannot make a huge difference in price.Neverthless, good to know Pocophone F1 does well in durability....

Even Zack admits that the flame test is pretty pointless.
BTW, plastic phones have always been durable, in fact more so than glass and metal ones. Just ask the LG V10 or the Galaxy S5.
It's just unnecessary hate towards polycarbonate plastic by reviewers and people, that made manufacturers turn against them. Now people realise, that plastic backs were much better than glass backs (which can crack or shatter) and metal back (which can dent).

The problem with plastic was not durability.
It can withstand drops better than anything else.
The problem is the cheap look and the scratch resistance that makes it look bad in a few months of light usage.
To me, neither of these are a problem, but manufacturers disagree.
I'd take a plastic or metal version of a phone over glass anytime if companies offered that choice.

My Sony xz1 compact has durable plastic body, feels very solid. What is the point of glass on the back of a phone ? You don't look through it.

So whats new, we have been making shotgun barrels from Nylon 66 for 40+ years.
Glass, as used by phone makers is usless, gorilla glass etc is a total con, compare gorillas latest products to 30 year old schott laboratory glass and then tell me that gorilla etc are not a total con..

Kangal, 14 Sep 2018Plastic can be durable? Tell me something I don't know. ... moreHe did peel and scratch the plastic frame very easily though. I can't shake the feeling that I might damage the plastic build with just my fingernails.

It's time we dropped Glass as a Construction Material, as one wise man once said "Glass is Glass, and Glass cracks". We should opt for Genuine Kevlar instead, perhaps with a Titanium-Alloy brace.

Well i was ready to buy this phone despite its all plastic but one friend of mine bought this phone and it has screen bleeding problem so im fine with build quality but the cheap display despite having sd845 cpu makes this phone a no buy for me at least until Xiaomi acknowledge the problem and fix it.
