This is how navigation gestures should be! No pills, no swipe up & hold etc. Just swipe where u would tap. I can't wait to use these gestures in Samsung Android Pie

Samsung is so weird. They are the king of AMOLED. And AMOLED has great features:
- black pixels are turned off (longer screen on time)
- black backgrounds look awesome
- black themes look awesome
but
- white backgrounds use more energy than LCD
- white themes use more energy than LCD
So what does Samsung do? Everything white! Everywhere!
He Samsung. Maybe make black backgrounds and themes the default?

whoah! It's beautiful! The dark mode will be a standout for an AMOLED screen. And the fact that you can toggle it on or off is just amazing, giving you the full customization and freedom to select either dark or bright (currently default) mode. Can't wait for GSMArena to release a review for this update!

Android was first to go software nav keys.. then they stuck with it for years.. YEARS.
Apple release their first software key with X.. Google saw it.. ohh i see! Thats how we should have done it.. thus android p.
From this fact alone.. you know who is the leader, who is the follower.

Ew I'm glad my phones last update will be Oreo. That app switcher is impractical and horrible.

AnonD-558092, 19 Sep 2018Me too. Oreo was perfectly fine without rounding all around... moreYour theory makes sense. As I said, I don't blame Samsung for the many rounded corners in their UI. Samsung had no choice but to follow Google initially, but being Samsung, the UI will likely go for a proper look and feel which maybe a hybrid solution for us all to ease the "pain" of Android Pie.

Why did Google suddenly felt like it had to copy Apple? Hmm. Maybe because the Android ecosystem is filled with iPhone copycats so Google wanted to give OEMs one less thing to copy?

That gesture navigation is brilliant! Finally a way to hide the nav buttons but also use their functiins without having to show them.
Also, system ui dark theme!!! I know there's themes but they don't skin everything and the sudden transitions from black to white are jarring.
Really thought Android Pie wasn't impressive and I still hatr the new rounded icons like in the old touchwiz. But Samsung's new changes have definitely made me change my mind. Can't wait for this!

However, there are too many rounded corners in the UI because of GOOGLE. I understand this is their first build which is not perfect. I hope Samsung fixes it for all of us Android Truthers / users.

"Rather than Google’s gesture pill, Samsung’s gesture navigation is enabled when the nav bar is hidden and requires a swipe up in the spot where a virtual button would otherwise be."
At least Samsung and other android brands give users an option unlike Pixel 3 / 3XL onward. All Samsung users should give a middle finger to Google's "iOS" wannabe gestures by SHOWING "what is always working" software buttons (which is the navigation bar) for EASIER navigation at ALL time. Seriously, Google, don't "fix" software buttons with "iOS" wannabe gestures that is never "broken" in the first place.
