Sony WH-1000XM3 review - the best noise-cancelling in town

I own several pairs of headphones and I can definitely give a good general opinion. Sony's WH 1000 XM3s are excellent when it comes to ANC, even better that Bose's QC 35II, BUT the sound quality is pretty normal. They tend towards a bass-heavy sound but even though they are well-balanced with mids and highs, their volume and overall sound is not as strong or surrounding as I would like them to be for 350 bucks. I'm still coming back to Bluedio's Victory, Taotronics' SoundSurge 46, or even Sony's XB 950N1s for a better overall experience. There are so many better headphones available nowadays for just a fraction of the price of "premium" ones.

Im pretty sure the author confuses crisper sound with harmonic distortion. The 1000X and XM2 are not as good as XM3 is mids, the main difference from X and XM3 is that the slight distortion in mids emphasises said mids an d it can appear louder and clearer.
This is why you should read audio reviews only if done by experienced audio authors, this review is complete wrong.
Also, despite the extra bass the XM3 still stands out as the most balanced of the 3. Sure hard mids like steel guitar will not stand out as much as on the 1000X but they are no doubt clearer on the XM3, and the author try to excuse his misconceptions with "personal preferences", making the whole thing even more messy.
XM3 is far better in audio quality, period.

Great review, which touched on some points I've not seen mentioned in numerous other WH-1000XM3 reviews. For instance: the annoying "You've reached max. volume" alert. If I recall, the older XM2 model just has a more discrete "beep" sound.

Dre, 23 Sep 2018I don't like Sony headphone. Audio technica is the best. My favorites Are Senheiser headphones. Very clear and analychical sound and not too much bass, or more like their bass is as it should be without awfull upper bass beat like in some other headphones...
But I have Audiotechnica noise channeling headphones and the Are really good (better Soundin than Bose IMHO but They reduce less outside voisi than Bose does) , but these New Sonys Are better that the Audiotechnicas I have now! There Are personal preferenses, but people should try before considering if these Are for me or not... I still hope to see good noise channeling From Senheiser because their sound suits me best, but these new Sonys Are not too bad, exspecially in noisy environment.

Noise canceling will be more in louder environment and wont let in the sounds that you need to hear when moving around.

I've bought a Sony headphones made in Japan. It is durable as hell. Sony's quality is unbeatable.

Sony MDR 1000x had the option to select ambient noise (voice or traffic) since 2016. MDR 1000xm2 and the xm3 have even better control with the app.
Try to read reviews before you come to a wrong conclusion!
