This would not work for me as you upgrade to enjoy the benefits of the new handset
On the other hand my old phone was in immaculate / pristine / mint condition (Android) as stored in a case, it had a screen protector on.
At the end of the 2 year contract, there was very little offers and those that came were ridiculous
Now Apple iPhone will have a higher residual price after 2,3 or even 4 years.
Android offers much more, than any iPhone will, there is in Android not so much depreciation, but a desire to have a brand new phone, or your old phone at a give away price
The ever increasing price may keep residual iPhone prices high, that only works if iPhone price are high.
There is known secret of when to sell iPhone which is before Apple announcements, but iPhone users will realise that the is no market that goes in one direction only
In order to get the same value, you have to hold an most expensive for 4 years (2x Note 9)

To be honest, it is all about encouragement. Take the XR for example: if people buying that phone ( and just accept that kind of crap as a *affordable*) , then you're simply enabling companies to do business like that. And that they'll treat you like a fool and you'll just take whatever crap that they put out and still buy without any chance to ever say NO to it.
Cause you turn yourself into a sheep and you follow and buy whatever they put out with whatever price that they marketing it.

Now ask yourself how much faster is A12 over competing chipset on Android field, SD845? Is it saving you hours? In reality, its 1/2 secs depending on app. As said by the article, Android flagships right now are at par with iPhone in some and better than it in some. Keeping aside OS, what extra XS and XS Max brings over Note9/S9+/OP6T to be priced at almost double their price? It is not about affordability here, you are paying one heck of an amount here. Yeah yeah majority of iPhone sales are fueled by carrier subsidies, for those guys it is just a dollar extra per day(Cook’s own words in an interview). You say “You cant afford it, shut up” and yet buy it through carrier subsidies. Just ask every one to buy unlocked phones at full price, then we will see how much sales Apple can get.

I can get it through phone plan finance from carrier, and so it considerably affordable at that point. But that doesn't mean I would like to pay for a overpriced phone when the same money that I'm paying can get me a few other phone that is pretty great ( if you don't just looking at the brand=$ crap).

It is expensive but come on it is still a business for Apple. If they can sell for this price then why not to do that? All businesses are trying to do that, only not all can be successful.

Samsung is already overpriced level 1 and Apple is overpriced level 3. Apple and Samsung is trying to increase avg purchase price, to capture more profit. For me, im fine with pocophone f1 128gb (i need dual sim for work) and an iphone 7 plus (yes i enjoy apple experience too). The XR could replace 7 plus later but the lower resolution might be a problem.

well as much as i agree with this post 100%, it doesn't change the fact that when you are paying for an iPhone you are paying for the whole experience, my old iPhone 5S is getting a "major" update in 2018...(read that back and think about it for a sec)
granted I'm no longer using it, I can't say the same about my other old android phones without having to constantly check XDA website hoping some bored dev decided to dedicate his life and soul to revive it... all the arguments that iPhones have less ram and or less battery, don't change the fact that in a side a side benchmark.. those small details don't even help the said android come on top... it's sad, because this is exactly why apple can get away with this absurd prices. and after having my fair share of android devices all i can do is cry while giving apple my money

Technically you can get them with a contract for like 50€ per month so a kid could afford this. But yea, it's laughably overpriced.

And people queue up to buy them. The quality of the ecosystem speaks volumes. Because the hardware is bested by Android. Google wants a piece of the low spec, limited feature, great camera game, so they went the Pixel route. With a disproportionate price. Tip, with a fluid UI and consistency of updates, you can flog specs from last year's flagships, processor aside, as long as your camera game is good. Hell, the Pixel batteries even reduced in size this year! The cheek of it!
