23 September 2018
Apple's latest flagship costs as much as a used car - does it make sense to spend as much on a phone?

A car is not going to cost 1300 pounds. Half of that is gonna be insurance. Plus you get constant bills for fuel and a lot of maintenance

Smart people doesn't care status symbol. It's how useful a product is and its value.

At least the car has a headphone jack and can charge your phone. =P

        I'll cop a car

And talking about cars,I have had two thus so far.And being honest,my second hand Renault Megane was way better than the brand new Ford Focus(with which I have had a tons of problems).Plus my Megane for less than 5000€ came with panoramic roof, leather seats, and tons more equipment, and never ever had a single problem with it appart for regular maintenence.

Jokes aside there will be millions go out and pay that amount of money for the new iphones. They would pay double that amount, money means nothing to have the latest iphone to some people. Thank the lord for android phones. The sad truth is Apple has caused other companys to inflate their prices to not make them look inferior products. So we are all paying more for apples greed. Id rather have the mini cooper and an old nokia 3310 than apples fools gold.

I spend half of my days on my phone so I wouldnt really mind paying 1000 euros for it if I had to. But I dont since I could just buy an almost new S9+ for 500 euros.

I'd rather use that about 1500 euros to buy a good pair of headphones.

It is so very sad it has gotten to this, comparing a phone with a car!
I don't even know what to say.
No phone in the world, whatever the amount of goodies it brings is worth a thousand bucks, unless you actually use it to perform your work.
Who needs Face ID, the best screen/camera in the world or whatever gimmicks that those thousand bucks phones bring. The average phone user doesn't need any of those, it is just a phone!

Hallo folks, a new is new!!!!
Who now what happened with this used car, some crash or it's maybe even a stolen?!?!

Anonymous, 23 Sep 2018Your poll needs a third option for both the iPhone Xs Max ... moreOh, and if you don't like MacDonalds, substitute an eatery of your choice.

I agree with Paul but Yordan's got a point. Well in NY for $1300 you can buy a new scooter delivering 132MPG :)
P.S. Pual, you can buy a used v6 Jag XJ if you double that money, not exactly a mini at 202''

Your poll needs a third option for both the iPhone Xs Max AND the used car. I'd definitely select that option.

But over all it's a silly-ass comparison, and a choice that no one in the real world would need to make.

Would you spend 10 on a meal at MacDonalds, or the same 10 on a movie? IF I'm hungry I'd choose the first option. But if I'm not hungry and would like to see a movie the second option. But in reality, I'd probably have the meal and then go to the movie.

Samsung Note 9 or used car? Used car anyday.

512 GB is a lot of fast storage( imagine a 512 GB SSD laptop) so I can understand the cost. That and the performance it comes with(there is yet to be an android phone reaching the performance of last years iPhone). For people who buy a phone every two to three years, it is not that much. The only problem with this phone is the size thus I'm more interested in the smaller version. Oh and I cannot possibly trust a car that cost less than 5000 USD.

Duel83, 23 Sep 2018I see what you guys are doing, so much traffic for your ear... more*clap clap* well you sounded very like showoff.. good that you can buy new car instead of ''never used'' but not everyone is ''rich'' like you.. who doesn't want new car over used, but the reality is something else

LoL. iPhone or otherwise, a 1000+ bucks mobile phone is incredible waste of money, I might purchase one, and I have, but I was being dumb and don't wanna make the same mistake again.

I think a used Mini Cooper is the iPhone XS Max of the car world. It is overpriced, breaks down quite often and requires maintenance but kind of retain the resale value. iPhone XS Max would also break easily from a simple drop and it may cost you $600 dollar to replace the back panel which is glass. The only reason people would ever want to buy any of these two is user experience. That is, they like to drive a Mini Cooper or they like to use iOS. Someone with a practical mindset would get something that gets the work done. A cheap android phone that does everything that an iPhone does (calling, texting, camera, app, games, internet). And the same person would get a Toyota or Honda instead of Mini which will do the same thing (take him/her to work and back home) but super reliable.
