Could you please stop with the defensive attitude and open your eyes for once?
How delusional can someone be is something i got to know today.
450$ is the manufacturing cost inclusive of labour, parts etc.

The steep decline in sales figure from 80-62% and now poor sales below expectations means iFans are realizing, i suggest you do too.

Wake up!

Anonymous, 27 Sep 2018Ok,fair enough... Lets start from the begining? 1.The pri... more... and all I'm doing is defending against the rampant fanboyism. I'm not a troll, I'm someone who speaks facts. The person that originally commented said "Look at Android, no wonder Apple is doing so well" or some such (I don't know exactly the phrasing since I can't see the post any longer). That's trolling. I was correcting a troll. Apple is not doing exceptionally well, at least not when you compare the large Android vendors (comparable ones to Apple); they're doing average, so you can't really claim "look at Apple compared to Android" when the most successful Android OEMs are doing at least as well as Apple.

Further, it's definitely true that the development of the phone factors in, but that's true for every OEM. Other OEMs don't have 55% mark-ups on their devices' components in spite of that. I'm not going to pat Apple on the back for making huge profits if most of it is because they have an audience who will pay whatever they ask for their products. I'll maybe give their advertising team pats on the back for that, but won't pretend that it's remarkable that a luxury company miraculously makes huge profits because they sell at a mark-up. That's fairly common sense--doesn't warrant congratulations.

1.The price of 450$ for an Xs max,is the value of its components.Development for the iphones itself are surely not taken into account. What about the army of engineers working not just on iOS but the whole ecosistem?
2.Record posting profits are past behind us,thats for sure. But also aplicable on the mobile market as a whole.I guess you know the story,so to make it short.Profits are falling for everyone including Apple, more so Apple even excels in this regard as their profits are not lowered proportionaly as is the case with android OEMs.

Not trying to defend Apple for fanboism, just being rational against all the trolling they are get on these pages.

I really wanted to like the Apple Watch. I find iPhones boring but I really wanted the AWS4 to be great. It still feels like I'm using an iPhone from 10 years ago on an iPad nano display. There's some lag all over and the touch response just isn't there.

The last great iPhone was the SE. Better design, metal back, headphone jack, Touch ID, and dirt cheap. I'm not an Apple fanboy. Far from it but I really do love my space gray SE. Not as much as my Essential Phone but it's fairly reliable and more so than my LGs.

              Sony Xperia XZ3 Compact

              I need a phone below 140mm in height. XZ2C is at 135.

Its mind boggling how some people here just cannot accept that many iPhone users just don't want all the complications which lets face it, only technology fans will appreciate from Android. But they must go online and condemn those who are not in line with their thoughts.

Just not a fan of either models.

The one Apple product I really wanted was the Apple Watch Series 4. Got to play with it yesterday. The touch response still feels laggy. These smartwatches basically have a SoC from 10 years ago. The UI isn't very fluid either. It's not instantaneous when I swipe on the tiny screen.

No longer interested in the Apple Watch. I'll get a Fitbit if I wanted to track my steps or I'll wait another few years. I'm going to invest more with Sony. Been using Sony for 30+ years. I'll stick to a company I know. The next Xperia Compact has got my attention. I hope Sony uses the XZ3 front but make it smaller, cheaper, and use a matte plastic finish.

Anonymous, 26 Sep 2018Objectivly speaking... dont know from what sleeve you pull ... moreI pull my info from market share data by Statista https://www.statista.com/statistics/271496/global-market-share-held-by-smartphone-vendors-since-4th-quarter-2009/

If you're going to move the goalposts by saying it's now about profits, that's fine, but it's a completely moot point. Apple makes those kind of profits by selling hardware for an extreme markup. Look at today's story that the Xs Max costs less than 450 to make, yet they charge 1100 for us for the base model. Of course they'll make big profits if they can find suckers to buy stuff at such a mark up.

For the record, Apple's profits are still down from the 2015 high, along with their smartphone market share, which tells me two things: they're not responding to what the market wants any more. Do they have lots of money in the bank and still make lots of money? Sure. I didn't argue that. What I argued is that they're making less on phones than they have in the past (in spite of higher profit margins per phone), and that that're losing market share to competitors, which doesn't paint a good picture for the future.

[deleted post]The news say NOTHING when compared to other phones sales.

The only faker is YOU for assuming likewise.

But one thing can be certain.. when other android phones are costing 4 times or less compared to an iPhone, WHY did iPhone even managed to sell at all, and on top of that Max (the more expensive version) sales even topped Xs??

The only logical explanation is that android still didn't try hard enough to cover all the needs of Apple. I simply do not believe in millions of people being just dumb or zombie or some mythic magical forces.

This is bad news for us consumers, apple will only be more inclined to raise all future product prices.

                          what is wrong with people???

My aged MIL struggles with Honor Play by mistakingly pressing volume up & down buttons, turning Mobile Data off, deleting apps due to pop up response, long press etc etc...also she gives her mobile to her acquaintances to fix this and that, and they contribute to further mess. Hence I have locked down the Launcher Home screen and apps...

In this regards iPhone makes sure you don't get unnecessary popups, feedback, deletion of apps, accidental settings change etc(I don't use iPhones for more than 2 years, hence my knowledge on recent changes are nil)

So much has changed since the initial apple strategy that anything more than a 3.5inch screen is absurd...
I have a friend who recently switched from apple to an MiMix 2..partly at my advise.. She's very happy with it, but i get the occasional feedback that its very complicated, there are too many options and so on

What my point is.. Is not that apple is for dumb people, but rather that its for people who want a laid back approach to their phone use.. And someone who is already deep into apple app ecosystem is better off with apple products only.. And the Xs max is the real counterpart of the android flagship.. Be it screen size or battery life.. And apple doesn't give much choice in model number do they?.. And this is good news as far as an ios user is concerned..

Lastly unlike most tech reviews including gsma.. Even though cloud storage is on the rise, people still prefer to store data locally on their devices.. Maybe these tech people should revisit their script
