I didn't order a Titanium to get a free Aluminium. I'm happy. The reviews are not even what I expected.

does this mean I get 3 aluminum versions for my 3 pre-orders? that would be suhweet. just use one or two and then sell all 3 when the titanium arrives.

then i woke up from my wet dream.

The phone has been so delayed the specs are just too out of date for the crazy price they demanded.

If the performance of the 835x was sufficient to do the job then, then it's still sufficient now, especially as the software will have been tweaked in the meantime.
Although this is being sold as a 'phone, I know from the forum that many people have no intention of using it as a 'phone but as a cinema tool, for capturing 4v content and for controlling Red cameras.
Remember that for a lot of Red customers even the $1600 of the Ti version is chickenfeed.

                  Now?
It won't even ship until we get our hands on the Kirin 980, Exynos 9910*, Snapdragon 860*....not to mention the Apple A12-Bionic here already. As context, remember the single-core performance is going to be around ~1,800 on Geekbench 4-64bit. And the competitors are expected to be selling cheaper devices with performances around 3,600 - 5,400, so that's literally over x2 or 3-fold faster performance.

Of course, speed is not everything. But here in the luxury price bracket there is no room for compromises and mistakes. Heck, the flagship price segment (now) starts at a whopping US$700 and that's where the compromises should end. So its inexcusable at the $1,600 price, but fanboys will be fanboys.

Very unlikely but don't expect a new one with twidley differences. This is Red after all. They'll take the experience of making this device, and look at the chipset and display, and the H2 will look like it came from Area 51, probably in a couple of years time and using, maybe an 865 or even 875 SoC. But I'll probably wait for the H3, which will be called the Tritium 'phone, and be radioactive.

Unfortunately trying to go to the next iteration of the SoC would mean starting the FCC certification all over again. Do you *really* want more delays?
I'm happy with the 835x SoC which will be sufficient for the lifting it will have to do, with the Cinema module doing the serious processing to make .r3d files from the video.
Of course those who *must* have the very latest of everything or their lives will be incomplete will be unhappy, but then this machine isn't for them. Red users get it completely.
Will get my pre-ordered Al version in a couple of weeks, and I just love the industrial design of the machine, this is a real tool for pros, not some bit of pretty jewellery.
