The iPhone XS sets the benchmark for drop survivability

Quite the reversal from the drop test we saw earlier this week.

However, there are still lots of issues in iPhone I'd rather not deal with. Only the biggest one has dual SIM, and only in China. And with the death of SE there is no comfortable iPhone left anymore.

According to the famous "Stiftung Warentest" the iPhone Xs breaks just as easily as the iPhone.

This test was very unrealistic (fresh asphalt is not practical for a drop test). Concrete, marble or tiles are practical for this purpose.

PhoneBuff has done a more realistic test, and the iPhone XS Max shattered like any other glass phone.

We have concrete paving slabs on pavements/ side walks, public areas, patios, etc.
This test can include flat front/ back drops too.
It looks like Gorilla Glass 6 has finally delivered, but we'll only know for sure once we see them tested on concrete.

Kur0yan, 29 Sep 2018Masters in Engineering, also says freedom = piracy. Whut? ... moreMy apologies. It all started when I said that apple must have made the glass tailored to their phones explaining why. And then this random user just said I have no idea what I’m talking about. That was arrogant and ignorant. So I gave him an idea of what I know.

In any case. I have used android for years. I know what you mean by freedom = customisation. And when I had android devices I would root them to get rid of all the bloatwear, when I had xperias I would flash cyanogen mod. When I made the switch to apple (got an ipad as I think at least for tablets iOS is best) then I bought an iphone as the two work together. That’s it. I found myself using apple devices. They are more ergonomic or should i say not unnecessarily complicated. I never felt the need to modify anything. I never felt the need to jailbreak. (Jailbreak allows u to customize as much as u want).

IMO people are just a bit scared of the unknown. I was too and it’s a lot of money to take the risk. But take a moment there, are you going to by using windows for the rest of your life? Or android? Why not see something different?

i am an android sheep only because of the os' openness and customization. with regard to design and build quality, i'll give it to apple. it may not always be the case with all the idevices, but really this is the reason for apple devices' longevity in value. this is not relative to the bill of materials, because as it has been for almost a decade now- samsung flagship phones (for example) almost always costs more to build than iphones. it is how every detail is scrutinized and quality being of utmost importance, with only a few slips here and there (antennagate, bendgate, purplish tint in camera lens, etc). build quality of course translates to durability. to sum it all up, i would trust statement of "quality and durability" from apple more than any android oem.

Watched the video other day, looked impressive but people complained it should be done on concrete, still looks like Apple improved it's glass durability

It customization and freedom. What if I don't like the icons? I can change em completely. Don't like the way the apps are on the homescreen? So many launchers to help. Wanna go into the nitty gritty? Gravity Box got you covered. Have an old device that the company stopped providing updates? OS is opensource and you got a very active community behind it. If you made blanket statements like that in any thesis you would have been dismissed immediately. Don't act so ignorant as to smear a Masters degree with a bad name.

Dropping iPhones on soft asphalt roads is not realistic. Nobody walks in the middle of an asphalt road and drop their phones there. Majority of phones will survive asphalt road drops well because, asphalt is soft, especially new, rarely used asphalt roads as shown in the video.

Drop tests should be done on sidewalk pedestrian lanes where people walk, which are almost always made of concrete. It's more realistic... and here, Apple's exaggerated claims on the iphone XS/XS Max's glass durability falls apart.

Don't you love Apple's frequent use of superlatives when introducing iPhones?
'the most', 'the best', 'surgical grade', 'finest', 'exceptional', 'precision machined', 'atomic level', -est, -est, and more -est more than ever!

What's next? 'intergalactic', 'cosmic' and 'quantum' and 'multi-verse'? :)

Here's what to expect of iphone's glass backs when used in real world scenarios:
                                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzf-eaugEtY

So much for the iPhones' prestige marketing. People are not falling for those highway robbery priced iPhone Xses anymore.

I'd rather buy a 65" 4K UHD Philips smart tv for less than the same amount as the iPhone Xses and use the change to buy a Xiaomi Pocophone F1 or another flagship grade android phone. At least the whole household are going to enjoy the high quality phone photos and 4K videos/movies more for the next 8-10 years; not like the obscenely priced iPhones that become outdated, outmodeled and disposed off in 365 days!
