Still no Pie in the Android distribution chart

As expected, there are a few ignorant replies to my comment.
Nowhere in my post did i justify the lack of long-term OS updates to Android phones. My comment was about the fact that Android is and has been a better and more advanced OS than iOS since the beginning, which is a fact.
As an Android user, i too would prefer if Androids would receive more than 2 OS updates, but realistically, the wide majority of people change their phones every 2 years anyway, so these long-term updates would only be useful to 2nd-hand buyers of these phones anyway.

Oreo's Project Treble isn't helping.
That's why Pixels really are the only way to go. Probably the next best are Nokias when it comes to updates. Android Pie for me really is wonderful. Hard for me to go back anything below 9.0 with the gestures, PiP, and better-looking emojis. The new battery management has also been a huge help.
People are really wasting their time and money buying Samsungs. Will take months for them to get the new updates. Samsung might have better overall hardware but software experience will always be inferior. Same applies to most others that isn't a Pixel.

Android update issues will not be solved until google is able to change the architecture so they can push the updates themselves.

Unless there is strict worldwide legislation to heavily penalize android phone manufacturers who keep on coming up with voluminous phone models they don't support in software updates (at the very least, 3-year security updates; not necessarily android version updates), this planned obsolescence strategy of not updating android phones so you'll always buy the latest phone models (despite using them only for call and text, browsing, Youtube and Facebook ) will never end.

That's good, because Pie doesn't support substratum and custom layers. Delay it long as possible until Google finally realise nobody likes the new material design, and add dark mode support on Google apps and throughout the operating system which is beneficial for Amoled displays, to save power consumption. Lastly, custom layers are no security threat.

Whackcar, 29 Sep 2018Android is so brilliant & future-proof that people can ... moreYou must be kidding me. I had a S4 running kitkat for some weeks and it was so bad that I quickly went back to ios. Now Ive got an S9+ on oreo and its good enough. Even if Im still missing ios smoothness a little bit.

Whackcar, 29 Sep 2018Android is so brilliant & future-proof that people can ... moreThen tell me how good is the app performance? A 5 year old ios device is already 64 bit and is METAL optimized. Meanwhile, a 5 year old android device don't have this feature. And it may lag on High quality games. Soon, it will not be able to run any AR apps, and cannot run apps that requires a higher version of android.

My OP6, the Essential ... moreWas supposed to buy Essential since its very cheap and a great bang for the buck but I dont have a debit or credit card so I just bought the Mate 10 Pro (I hate the P20/Pro). I'm happy because everything is excellent about this phone yet I kinda worried that it may not receive Android Pie. i just really really hope it does.

Dunno till when we will keep having the same argments:
Android updates are slow
iOS updates are fast
When:
iOS is limited even after so many updates
Android is user friendly even on Marshmallow

Android is so brilliant & future-proof that people can still use old devices running Kitkat & Lollipop without any issue. You wouldn't find any old iPhone users running old software, because iOS is always 5 generations behind Android OS in features & customizability.
Some angry iOS user is gonna reply "but we get 5 years of OS updates". You don't get it, Android users don't need 5 years of updates, because Android is far more advanced than iOS. Even Kitkat & Lollipop have more features than iOS 12. It's hilarious yet true.
