Look where is Xiaomi in just 8 years.
And it started from a scratch.
So price is the biggest factor.
Thus less and less people like samsung.
All whats samsung keeps above the water level uis a fact they sells everything from electrical tooth brush to many kitchen machines, white and black tech, pc, tv, hifi, audio and many other. Big production. They produce lot more than people are able to consume thus the Samsung problem.
They leaping much higher than they would soon or later someone break their leggs.

And I know, couldn't they just make the phones 200 cheaper and call it a day? That's uncertain, because selling by volume now has it's risks in this bloated market

                                1) Customers: these guys who are in the main market are the ones who but these at the price they are sold. Because many go on carrier plans which ends up to about half the price yearly, some people who buy all out and there are people who get them cheaper. The prices are there because there is a market at where they sell it at that much money. Anybody who wishes not to pay, uses mid-range and budget. It's no different from Huawei
                                2) Cost: this is actually pretty surprising, but profit margins have gone down. The money to make these has gone higher and they want to make the maximum amount of money to cover the costs. Especially in R&D, Samsung uses a lot of money on R&D and has more workers than any other smartphone company
                                3) Profit: this is obvious, every company wants to profit. Now I know Samsung is actually profiting a lot from their hardware business, but that some can't cover everything. Samsung, Apple, and Huawei are the biggest smartphone companies, and each make a ton of money off of the flagships. Each give the users a choice to buy. In the end, the profit just has to be big.

I know it doesn't make much sense, after all the prices do drop, bit think about it like this from Huawei's and Samsung's point of view. Both sell a lot from preorders, and when interest starts to wane, they decrease the price to sell more.
