DXomark been paid?
Of course. Who want to provide service for free of charge? The test wasnt easy though. It goes the same to other popular professional reviewer. But i dont believe who pays more got more attention. They must set things properly for a fair professional comparison.
Flagship - Higher amount fee (same to all brand)
Mid range - Medium amount fee (same to all brand)
Low range - Low amount fee (same to all brand)
Its all down to their way of review things based on own principal and rules, and the way i see it, they are professional on each test, therefore some phones have very low score. For the other flagship phone that havent been reviewed, either they dont have the confidence that their phone is good, or just dont want to be bother by it.

I don’t want to carry that huge mirrorless brick with me all the time. And you have to hab’s knowledge to use that thing, in our summer vacation, my father also used some mirrorless Sony alpha camera, but because he doesn‘t know anything about photography and just uses the standard setting without adjusting anything, my iPhone 7 made better pictures, especially notable in low light, because I just have to point, shoot, boom, and I have a pretty decent picture. I always repeat what MKBHD said „The best camera is the one that you have always with you“

The Smart HDR feature has a big impact, it‘s not just an „AI“ gimmick like what Huawei does with filters and such. It actually combines many different pictures to make a better picture.

I wonder how DxOMark is going to score LG V40's quintuple camera setup... :). DXOmark's weighted scoring method and testing protocol is going to change again! Yay! Smartphone camera scores keep on inching higher and higher like Antutu benchmark scores but without real significant image quality improvement at high ISO's. Fake bokeh? That's bonus points! Additional secondary telephoto camera? That's more bonus points! What percentage weight does DXOmark mobile assign to each sub score to arrive at the final camera rating? NOBODY knows. No wonder nobody trusts DXOmark's ratings. I wouldn't buy smartphone based on DXOmark's ratings. For one, it rates the Pixel phones and iPhones highly as the best phones for photography but they don't even have a manual mode to set the ISO, shutter speed, saturation, contrast, etc. No wonder people end up posting portrait photos in Facebook that have their faces look absolutely alien with the alien 'beauty mode' on and with AI (artificial ignorance) enabled.

Apple's only visible competitor is Samsung. Otherwise, they do their own thing.
Huawei does not compete with Apple, it competes for Android dominance, and they are eating up Samsung share.

IPhones have high score because new protocol. The iPhone 7 was rated 85 in 2016, while many phones were rated above.

From the beginning I phoned never completed on Camera, Photography etc... They always behind in this area. Only after iPhone 7 they sort of providing some importance for camera in a half-hearted manner. By the time they realised Google, Huawei, OnePlus etc went ahead in this area by good margin. Nokia, Sony, HTC which used to dominate the Camera space are pushing hard to regain their top spot. Apple most probably would like you to ignore this feature for buying decision as far as iphones are concerned.
It won't be bad their cameras, definitely will be good enough but it won't beat the best everytime

mobile sensor.
If you use lower resolution it will look better.
People still have illusions that if Samsung and Apple had 24, 30 or 50 MP the photos would look exactly as they look now at 12MP.
Lower resolution is the easiest trick to hide noise. Noise is easier seen as you crop, small photos don't let you crop that far.
I resize all my picks to 2160x1536, Noise disappear!!!
Then you look on a beautiful 50" 4K HDR screen, you will realize how awful 12 MP can be. Lack of details and tons of oversharpening to make people believe details are there when they are not.

After owning a Sony A7 camera, I don't care about Phone cameras. I have an iPhone X and the camera is bad to me.
