Anonymous, 06 Oct 2018Darn are those iPhone xs cameras that bad?I doubt it. Pixel 3's camera is better, but iPhone Xs's camera is far from being that bad of a shooter like the samples shown.
I believe that they've intentionally increased the exposure level to intentionally create an overexposed image from the iPhone, just to make it appear considerably worse. In reality, the Pixel 3 will more or less likely be better than the iPhone Xs. The iPhone even manages to beat the Note 9 in several occassions, so I believe that the same thing would happen when it's being compared to the Pixel 3.
As for zoom, I expect nothing short of disappointment from the Pixel 3 due to its lack of any hardware capabilities to zoom in without image quality loss.

travis999, 06 Oct 2018I wonder how bad the first bug or hardware problem will be.... moreThey're not trying to overtake Samsung or Huawei in terms of sales. It doesn't matter for them.

Whackcar, 06 Oct 2018There are TWO reasons why it's not ok to put a single camer... moreIt can't take wide angle photos, but it can technically still do a great lossless zoom by using a large and high resolution sensor, like the Nokia 808 PureView's hardware.
That hardware, paired with Google's multi-frame image stacking algorithm, would create an unstoppable camera performance!
And since you have a total of 40MP, you can zoom in up to 5x digitally without any major loss in quality (most of our phone screens, except Sony's 4K-touting Xperia Premium devices, cannot display 8MP images in its native resolution, so 8MP images would still look good on the 2K screens).

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2018You need zoom, unfortunately.
This phone will get a weak... moreGreat zoom can be achieved even without the need of a dedicated telephoto lens. How? Simple; by using a large and high resolution main sensor.
40MP 1/1.4" f/1.8 lens with OIS would be enough for at least a 5x lossless zoom. P20 Pro doesn't actually need the telephoto lens anymore for clear zooms, but for the sake of being first with a triple camera setup, they decided to add it.
Imagine the Nokia 808 PureView's camera hardware being paired up with Google's multi-frame image stacking algorithm; epic!

If you h... moreOnly really Nokia used bigger sensors I think , N8, 808 , etc
I'm pretty sure in general older phone sensors weren't bigger though , especially not Sony Ericsson as far as I'm aware , I'm probably totally wrong .
I know Nokia had variable aperture before Samsung thought of it

I'd like to see some figures of exactly how many pixel 2 Google have managed to sell, as opposed to how many shipped.
£770 for what is essentially a re-badged HTC seems very high, makes HTC's own prices look almost reasonable !!!

ME, 06 Oct 2018My SE W800i made better pictures.I've used W800i, it's camera was not that good.
If you had said K800i, K810i, K850i or C905, then i would get your point (they had brilliant cameras in daylight performance, but almost unusable in low-light and video-recording). They were also very slow. Each picture took 2-3 seconds to save. I've used all of them back in the day.
They had brilliant shutter speeds though. Running fans would appear still in the pics. I used to show it off to my Nokia using friends who were very jealous of this feature. I haven't seen any modern phone being able to do that. Not even Sony ones... I guess the small sensors in modern phones can't compete with the bigger ones back in the day of fat phones.
I also miss the XENON flash on those phones. No amount of LEDs can compete with that. I wish companies would bring that back...
Thanks for reminding me of the good old days, mate. :)

That other site reports a higher capacity battery, do you reckon Samsung would have had the sense to mask some of the features in the settings? So they can then set our expectations low, to wow us when it is revealed to be a touch higher.

Doing better than iPhone Xs is no big deal.
Other phones can do it already

Pixels don't just excel in camera. They excel in Android software experience too. Is the iPhone X design anymore prettier? Not really.
Pixel 4 / Quiche. Dual cameras and complete redesign this time.

Price is shocking. Still likely to be a mid ranged device, with an epic camera. Just like last year. Should be £650, tops.

They should release an $250 budget friendly pixel and launch it worldwide, it will sell well. I know Google wanted people to see Pixel just like how people see iPhone but that won't do...

Honestly I am kinda dissappointed of what Google is doing. Huge notch on the XL version, still one camera(I know it takes really good photos, but dual or triple camera could be even better for obvious reasons). Google was trolling a few days ago, but they could sell less devices than last year. They also should make a better price tag. They also should release their phones using more color options as well.

This phone would be an absolute favorite, if it had the headphone jack and no Notch
