Please note that I haven't claimed that there is no benefit in a 1440p over 1080p, there is. It's just that a 1440p amoled won't be significantly sharper then a 1080p RGB. But 1440p vs 1080p RGB and 1440p vs 1080p amoled are both great improvements (particularly for VR and) for general use and video of higher resolution than 1080p. But as far as 1440p pentile amoleds go, I would rather have them make 1080p RGB amoled. Sure, it will not look as impressive on spec sheet, but it would overall be a better product. In all fairness, by now samsung should be able to make a 1440p RGB amoled on their larger screens.

Cross hatch patterns aren't really a concern in any of todays phones that I've seen (although it may be a concern for Huawei Mate 20 X - haven't seen it yet) but the opposite is true for screen door effect. You can see example of this with your naked eye on Vivo Nex, and if used for VR absolutely every pentile amoled.

Marco M, 18 Oct 2018We still don't know what panel it will have, only the resol... moreWhile it's true that Samsung uses a 1440p panel in their flagships more because with pentile oleds, the cross hatch patterns are less visible, it's incorrect to say that they don't have a resolution jump over an RGB LCD panel.

While it's true that at their default 1080p resolution, each pixel has an rgbg subpixel layout, at 1440p, even if each pixel doesn't have full RGB, it's still got rg or bg and that's enough to vary the brightness and colour of each pixel, what it lacks of course is the ability to render all possible colours for each pixel.

I strongly disagree that there is no perceptible benefit over 1080p for a 5.5 inch 16:9 or 6 inch 18:9 panel. The difference between 1080 and 1440 is like looking at a PC screen from a few feet Vs looking at high quality print from a foot. Even to this day, I am stunned at the screen of my several year old LG G3. I admit it's more a luxury whereas 1080 is like a family car that does the job, but considering how expensive today's phones are, I am not willing to buy a flagship or mid-high end phone without a 1440p screen especially now that I have a 1080 screen and can clearly see a reduction in sharpness and detail.

Lccy, 17 Oct 2018It's disappointing how Chinese manufacturers are abandoning... moreWe still don't know what panel it will have, only the resolution.

Many of current QHD screens (or WQHD+) are pentile, so same sharpness as RGB panels at FHD (or FHD+).

Standard setting of Samsung's popular SGS-series that has (W)QHD(+) resolution is not set to their native resolution, but 1080p. This because the 1440 resolution is just a spec race and shows no real benefit over 1080 in their pentile panels. At their 1080 setting, they are close to having RGBG in each pixel, rather than RG in one ang BG in the next as in their 1440 setting.

Not only that, their LTE frequencies differ from the rest of the world - for no good reason. This is why some manufactuerers have different chipsets for the US and why many Motorola phones have quite frankly been two different models in the US and rest of the world.

Do they use 2300, 2100, 1800, 900, 800 etc? Nope, they use 2500, 1900, 1700, 850, 700 etc. It's so silly and I just really don't get why. Not one common shared band.

Let's hope they do a better job with 5G, but honestly why should be expect them to not repeat the same differences as before?

Cool. The Mi Mix has so many great features.

If only it had the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the 4400 mAh battery of the original Mi Mix.

only if they have usb type c 3.0 port, so it support video out and desktop mode, then it will be a killer.

Way to go... 5G support indicates that we should stop buy any 4G phone now as next year or two 4G will be ancient.
