I can't think of any logical reason for yearly upgrades but due to this yearly price increase, you will end up paying a lot when it is the time to upgrade considering the resale value of 2-3-year-old flagship or midrange device. Low end just ceases to exist.

You should not be quoting US prices because the iPhones cost significantly more in all other countries. The Americans are suckers for iPhones because they get them at the cheapest price worldwide.

The XR is also bigger, has the A12 chip, and a better camera than the X. The only real advantage of the X over the XR is the OLED screen and stainless steel band. Some people don't like buying used smartphones...

I would rathe... moreLucky for you then, we have a P20 Pro inhouse at the time and yeah it can take good detailed photos with its zoom lenses, at distances better than iPhone Xs. However the P20 Pro is useless for typical phone photography like portraits and selfies, it looks like someone forced a skin colored rubber hose over your head, details are completely missing and pretty girls look quite ugly and unappetizing.
P20 Pro is for those who only want resolved details and love to walk around taking photos of houses at a distance and then spending hours zooming in at the photos saying "thats some great details". Well, its not what you need in a photograph, and its not funny beyond the first day.
Also the inability to get complex patterns correctly pictured is a big weakness of the P20 Pro, a person in a knitted sweater will look like he is wearing something made of a plain single colored fabric, the rows and patterns of the individual yarn threads disappear, and to make it worse a retired iPhone 5s or 6 will render these detailed with an amazing clarity AND with natural colors.
Just get a P20 Pro but make sure you are ONLY interested in max zoom and that you will never look at photos zoomed out, you must be obsessed with resolved detail in old buildings to buy it.

Who will buy this small sensor camera phone ? I would rather buy Huawei P20 Pro which has large camera sensor...large camera sensor = better image quality

i don't get it, its massively inferior to a used iPhone X and cost more, this is the successor of iPhone8 at a horrible price. Even a used 256GB iPhone X in premium condition cost less than Xr 64GB, you get inferior storage, inferior camera, inferior display and PLASTIC housing, all for a HIGHER price?? This phone maxes the iPhone Xs Max look underpriced.

The reason why people are criticizing xr is the physiology of the looks. It looks like iphone x so they instantly compare it to the x/xs while it was meant to be an upgrade from iphone 6,7,and especially 8 series. People criticized xr for the glass being half empty while apple wanted to make it have half full instead: People criticized xr because it’s worse than xs while it was supposed to be a better iphone 8 instead. Hope you understood.
Compared to iPhone 8 the xr looks like a great upgrade: changed design,better soc,better camera,finally some camera softwares like fake bokeh,3d face unlock and an impressive display considering that this is an LCD display. I believe it’s the same semi-bendable lcd used on mi mix series.
And the price is only 50$ more compared to iphone 8 price when it first came out. It’s obivously more than other android devices but don’t be surprised since this is apple we’re talking about...

Remembered that there was this line outside of a phone stores that sell iPhone in China
"Buy a iPhone, You've got more money than sense."
If iPhone is that good then the iPhone 8, 8 plus is damn fine for the job and one could save some money too.
But hey… it is they said iPhone is good, is great, it is so good that the brand new iPhone 8, 8 plus with a cheaper price tag is not good enough that they have to pay 750 for a sub-flagship iPhone xr

If you saved a dollar per day for five years, you would have more than enough money to purchase a phone upfront. (I do not wish to hear about phone relevancy as it is subjective. Phones can last more than 2-3 years.) But even still, in 2-3 years you could mostly purchase a new phone at $1 per day.
