20 October 2018
This could result in a small increase in Android smartphone prices in Europe.

Plazmex8, 26 Oct 2018I don't understand people replies here like "Google is bad"... moreSo should the stupidity of sheep! you realize that the fine was due to google FORCING the OEMs to load it all, ALA bloatware and forcing that to be the only source of apps for an OPEN SOURCE OS?

Gapps are bloatware, 31 Oct 2018Again, that will put a price on Android giving alternate OS... moreTrue but in the end the app ecosystem will decide whether an os will survive.. We have so many examples windows rt, symbian.. Ah symbian.. You made me remember symbian.. Good times good times..

I don't understand people replies here like "Google is bad" "Stop using android" "Sundar is the worst CEO" "Google is evil" etc etc etc..

          Are you really that stupid?
I mean, what did you expect them to do when your delusional EU fine them to pay €4.3 billion for using their FREE apps!? That Google will say "Ah ok, thank you for making us pay you 4.3 F**cking Billion Euros for preinstalling free apps on phones"!?

BRAVO GOOGLE! Stupidity should be fought with countermeasures!

            So much for open source

viveksubhash, 21 Oct 2018I don't think it can be called a fine if Google can basical... moreThe end user can always download googles garbage on their own, without it being pre installed. Or they can download from a competitor. Thats called a free market, which is what google is opposing and EU is enforcing.

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2018I did not get your part about 'in Windows, you can install ... moreAndroid is a joke compared to windows. And no, you cant just install anything you want to unless you are what they call tech savvy. Most ppl are not. So they just see the security warnings and decide not to use any other source.
Besides, when you visit a website to download something, you are automatically re routed to play store.
Such behavior is illegal for you, me microsoft and everyone else out there. Everyone except Google.
Google fans should be locked up in an asylum

The first thing I do is disable all of Googles garbage and then install Apk Pure Appstore.

MarcioR, 22 Oct 2018I always use gApps, gmail, youtube, chrome, google services... moreAnd now we know why Europe is dying and Asia is taking its place. Because of people like you.
Google pre installs non removable garbage and finally the EU is combating this non competitive behavior and you have a problem with that.

" This also begs the question - what if a device manufacturer decides to pre-load only Google Play Services and asks the users to download the rest of the GApps using a third-party installation wizard?"

                      Silly question
The only reason ppl use Googles bloatware is because its pre installed. why would device manufacturers give a downloading wizard, and why would the customers download bloat?

I don't expect any company to be altruistic, charitable non-profit organisation making the World a better place, but I don't expect them to be so greedy either.

These trillion dollar companies aggressively exploit tax loopholes when they all should just pay there fair share.

Is Bing a failure?, why do say that?
I also use Samsung internet browser, which someone else disliked.
Does anyone know why I shouldn't use these?, or is there no reason, just personal preference/ choice.

Alphabet's Google Android is almost a trillion dollar company like Apple, IMO the most important thing is to keep it's users safe by providing security updates (I still get these quarterly so far).

What I never understand about fines is that if the consumer has been wronged then the consumer should be compensated, NOT the E.U. gets compensated & the consumer pays the bill!

The only way actual harm would be felt is if the directors themselves were held liable, with the fines coming out of their own bank accounts. I'm European and i would like to add that the EU is a ******** first of all.
Secondly, if I were google i would charge way beyond these 40 euros.
I would charge 80 euros for google play alone. And if people would try to download play store for free on a thirs party website, it wouldn't work. I would make everybody pay with a serial code to activate Play Store and a verification mechanism to validate the one time activation code.
Secondly, i would opt for giving away playstore for free if they are willing to install all the Gapps.

Why i would do that? Because if those apps were mine, i would milk everybody just like the EU goverment does...
