The Google Pixel 3 has teething issues but will early adopters have the patience?

Dr. Chillo, 09 Nov 2018I agree with you in many things. But ok, it's quite a good device to get if You're looking for a mid-range phone. But now as the phones are so fast, and don't get that much faster within 1-2 year period, compared to a few years ago.
It's IMO better to buy a 2 year old flagship to get better performance/stability throughout all compartments of a phone. After trying OnePlus...

As for Google, it's unfortunate that they either can't get to, or don't want to invest as much in Smartphone business. As the main developer for Android system, and the huge investments in smartphone camera software department, they have kind of achieved, what in my opinion is their goal - create a hard to resist OS experience, with unbeatable camera software, with lesser hardware cost. The next step is to have their own manufacturing plant, so they can better control the quality, and make a stable phone which costs less to build in terms of raw hardware cost, which performs better than competition's best hardware attempts.

I am a developer and I know developers soaks money, it is clear for me that needs time, very good planning and time manegement. And I know OnePlus 3T is actualy almost Trash but don't forget, OnePlus 3T wasn't ever a flagshit, did't cost 950$, and OnePlus is a small child company with not much money in hand.
On the other hand you have an almost a Trillion dollar company, which rolls out 1 handset each year and ask for almost 1000$ for it. So when I'm ready to pay 1000$ for a smartphone and that is onl a smartphone nothing else so I'm expecting a flagship. Software problems wich get fix with a fast update (not like RAM problem of Pixel and still no fix for at after almost 1 month) are not a huge problem but using cheap, outdated components and selling them as expensive as highest specs is just unfair and unacceptable.
BTW OnePlus got enough punishments because of all horrible things what they did. OnePlus could be way bigger if they would not selling data to chinese and other countries, if they didn't let hackers get their hands on the 40.000 credit cards and etc.

But software development costs a lot too, that's what people don't take into consideration, they take it for granted. I'm about to try the Pixel 2 XL personally. I've heard it has less of screen issues than at launch. The microphones were fixed too, and are seemingly quite decent, it was an issue with overly aggressive noise cancellation, and it sounds like it's the same for Pixel 3, the output is quite clear and detailed, OnePlus 6T in comparison was completely garbage low-fi, compared to Pixel 3.

I'm currently an owner of OnePlus 3T, I bought it at launch, and I fell in a trap. The Camera is horrible, the microphones are horrible, the vibration is non-existent, the speakers are below average, the earpiece distorts sound and still quiet at max volume, bad Wi-Fi connectivity, and there are bugs all over, and battery life was so inconsistent throughout updates, and now suddenly on the last update before OnePlus 6T launch it has suspiciously started lagging, and crashing a lot. It's all about reputation and perception, why does OnePlus don't get to be called out for it's mistakes? People love to hate, the Pixel ain't perfect, yes, but it has quality control issues just like many/most other manufacturers, and it gets double the attention for it.

Xypleth, 06 Nov 2018Yeah, but well, except for the bugs, it kind of is a worth ... moreI don't beleive because they used less RAM it means they want to make it to run more efficient. It is because Google is greedy. Google is still using Single camera steup, most horrible microphones in market seriously even nokia 3 has a better microphone than Google pixel 3 and it costs -700%, and still no NVMe. these are not the sign shows Google want to make everything run more efficient, they are signs, that shows Google is getting more greddy than before.
I agree about the Android and how awesome it become through years, even i hate Android Pie Gesture (a cheap, exteremly use Unfriendly copy of iPhone X gesture) but anyway it is getting better and better, but it has nothing to do with Pixel devices. Pixel 3 is literaley no Update over Pixel 2 except Front camera and a better display for XL version cause Pixel 2 XL Display was most horrible Display I've ever seen on a flagshit.

Dr. Chillo, 05 Nov 2018It's nice that Google went with Samsung RAM, it is understa... moreYeah, but well, except for the bugs, it kind of is a worth it trade-off. Look how far Google's design for Android has come, it now has it's own character, and a beautiful simplistic one. Also the camera software is totally nuts, nobody can do better, nobody has managed to copy it since it's debut on the first Pixel.

I'd sure would have liked more RAM, but look at it this way. Google is making the software mainly so it runs the best on their device specs, obviously, but having less RAM means that they're building it to run more efficiently, not utilize maximum amount of Hardware, which You as a customer will pay for. Then they also have the cheaper alternatives from other companies with Google's "stock" software. Starting from the bottom is great.

Xypleth, 22 Oct 2018It must be really hard to be a relatively small player in t... moreIt's nice that Google went with Samsung RAM, it is understandable 6GB is more expensive but you have to ask yourself how can Oneplus and Xiaomi go for 8GB RAM and handle everything much better than a 4GB Samsung RAM and still be almost 100% cheaper than a Pixel Device.
Google could go for a 6GB+ RAM and even lower their prices but they didn't. Google is following Apple's politic "using crappiest, cheapest and weakest components and sell them for highest possible price"

Google should drop making smartphones and return to the "Google Play Edition" Era where smartphone makers were creating high-end smartphones like Galaxy S4 GPE with vanilla android. This will be the best decision

Nzi97, 25 Oct 2018Ya.. Ya.. I heard that a lot about samsung getting better ... moreYou have heard about Samsung getting better, but I have experienced Samsung phones for a long time, as well as other Android brands and IOS. I can tell you from actual experience and from the experience of many others, that it is as smooth as anyone could want. My S9+ is six months old and it has not missed a beat, no slowing down, no reboots, app crashes and is just as smooth as the day I bought it. It is full of apps and I am a heavy user. You have obviously not used a recent Samsung flagship, so cannot claim the truth of how a phone performs. Of course, user experience will vary, but that applies to all phones, not just Samsung ones. I have yet to come across a phone with as many features and functionality as a Samsung flagship that is smoother or faster to any noticeable degree, nor maintained the performance level six months after purchase. What phones do you consider are smoother and can maintain this after months of use, while being comparable to a Samsung flagship?

Stop claiming something that you have no real experience of and relying on outdated information.

Truth is usage differ form person to person, and from my experience even the new samsung is prone to stutter (as early as 6 month), from plethora of notification and pushing the phone to it's limit
If people use samsung and it's okay for them, let them keep it, but for people searching for better thing, it exist

Nzi97, 23 Oct 2018Well, usually people who use samsung rarely ever experience... moreThe real truth is people like you who are still are saying the Samsung UI is not smooth or laggy are years out-of-date and have not used a modern Samsung phone. I have used and still use IOS devices and other Android phones and most people I know who have a Samsung phone have switched from iPhones in the last two years. The level of functionality and customization the modern Samsung Experience brings to a phone, without any noticeable loss in speed or smoothness is a testament to how far the Samsung skin has come.

I mean, it was the standard for Andoid 6 years ago, but still, it's time to move on, finally. I guess their very recent EMUI 9.0 is a step forwards. But I'm truly surprised how they managed to sell the clearly dated UI, before EMUI 9.0.

As i said HTC is not the right choice and if Google lower it's profit and try think about quality and their customers more then they could go for a dual camera, bigger battery, bigger RAM, bigger storage, better loud speaker and even lower their prices. But unfortunately Google is like Apple and thinks just about money but. I don't say exactly like Apple cause there's nothing else than money, that Apple thinks about but Google is not that far yet.
After all google COULD use way better components and still lower their prices, BUT they DO NOT DO.
