Whether you like it or not...RIM is looking beyond the western markets...they are saturated now but the emerging markets like Africa especially Nigeria,RIM are silently making a kill there..you need to see how these phones are selling out like wild fire, even used Blackberry phones don't last on the selling stands...most telecoms providers offer BIS and this is how RIM are staying afloat in the market
As for the models, they all look same but who cares....Nigerians love Black berry and whatever Nigerians like sells

SS, 16 Nov 2011Interesting, What is suretype or what do you mean here?Suretype is a keypad/keyboard layout similar to the alpha-numeric keypad layout of most feature/regular cellphones. It's referred to as a "reduced" keyboard when compared to a qwerty. It looks exactly like a qwerty keyboard except that each key comprised of two(2) letters. So, the q-w pair occupies one key, e-r occupies the adjacent key, t-y the next key, so forth and so on.

In portrait mode, it provides the user with bigger, more thumbable keys compared to a strictly qwerty keyboard. On a touchscreen, the bigger the key sizes in portrait mode, the easier and quicker it is to type. And as with the regular alpha-numeric keypad you have T9 text prediction, you also have text prediction on the Suretype or "reduced" keyboard.

And because I can only use one hand to operate my BB9860, the Suretype or "reduced" keyboard allows me to quickly and accurately type out a text message or email without much difficulty.

I suffered a stroke a few years ago and the result is I'm partially paralyzed on my left side.

I've never been a big fan of qwerty keyboards (landscape or portrait) for the simple reason that I can only operate my cellphone with one(1) hand. With BB having the Suretype layout on it's 9860, and before that the 9520, it made text messaging and typing out emails so much easier for me than on my previous cellphones, the Iphones and Androids.

Granted, BB doesn't have the wide range of apps that the other platforms offer. But in terms of ease of use & useability (for me anyway), my BB9520, 9100, and now 9860 provides just that. For my use, the apps I found in the BB Appworld fit my needs. And I don't need any more.

So my preference for BBs is based more on my physical needs. But I also like their styling. And for me, cellphones are just a tool. They're not status symbols. On the other hand, Rolexes are.

for those people not aggreeing with bb that they released the same phone with the same features for me its ok because its the same thing with samsung htc and other manufacturers releasing android.. they have a lot of mobile but still the os is android.. so boring

have been using a 9700 for 2 years now. love it. all i'd want to change in my 9700 are upgraded specs per the 9790! 9790 perfect for me. all i can say is: single-handed operation! for me, i would never sacrifice a small, pocketable, power-house and get what is essentially an undersized tablet (e.g. iphone, android). i want a PHONE that is fast and good enough for web. most apps out there are just gimmicks anyway (oooh, check out this new cool app that does this and that. yea? who cares, you don't use it!) and allows SINGLE HANDED OPERATION.
