This was a very cool upgrade from P60 as it made gaming experience so much better! Now P90 is in the market and it will change the whole thing!

cat, 26 Oct 2018cat 7 for lte download? u gotta be kidding meWhat is your bandwidth at home? I'm not sure it is better than LTE cat 7!
For desktop computers that are far more powerfull.
You know, most time, your operator will not have enough signal to agregate...
Or your phone manufacturer will not install the antennas to let you get the bandwidth, only to reduce costs...and they will not tell it to customers.
Nokia does!
Nokia 7 Plus uses SD660.
SD660 is Cat 13 - 600Mb/s
But Nokia 7 Plus is...Cat 6 - 300Mb/s (See Nokia's website)

And as devices get faster and more complex, the inconsistencies and bugs and inefficiencies they stack up. This is the reason why the development community has largely abandoned MediaTek, and to a lesser extent HiSilicon and Samsung too.
Qualcomm is the winner, not because they are great, they merely win by default.

Now I use P60, it's way faster...I didn't expect that.
Both in term of CPU and GPU.
For your X20, I think you can find some sources on M.A.D.'s Github

Graphics should have more cores.
But most importantly, WE NEED SOURCE CODE.
I am waiting for next flagship Mediatek's SoC, that would be good upgrade over Helio X20.

AnonD-781012, 24 Oct 2018Is mediatek still hard on custom ROM development? It might depend on your device.
I am currently running ResurrectionRemix Nougat on Helio X20 phone (Vernee Apollo Lite). It has same bugs like stock ROM, due to inexperienced developer who built it. Phone has several unofficial ROMs on 'needrom' website, but, we still need source code from Mediatek.
Long time ago, I used Cyanogenmod Kitkat on MTK6592m device, and I was very impressed by its performance. It was very optimised and smooth. I ported that ROM by myself.
What is your experience with custom ROMs?

Kangal, 24 Oct 2018More competition is good.... but this thing, it's not reall... moreP60's GPU isn't as gold as Adreno 512, true...but not by far with Vulkan API.
P60's GPU is better than Adreno 509.
All benchmarks say that, gfxbench, 3dmark...on Antutu's 3d test, P60 scores the same than SD660 (due to tesselation capabilities).
Nokia was forced to downclock P60 on 5.1 Plus by 10% on CPU and 20% on GPU...without that, the 6.1 Plus and 7.1 will ne ridiculuous with their 636!

On action cameras, 4k60fps is encoded with soc that are quad-core cortex A53 (such as Ambarella H22)!

Shanti Dope, 24 Oct 2018That is true, but I want to clear out that the SD710 beats ... moreNope.
The QSD 710 has better performance cores... but there's only x2 of them, and they're clocked much lower. So the Helio P70 surpasses it on the CPU front only. But in day-to-day tasks, the x6 Cortex A55 would probably handle better than the x4 higher clocked A53 cores. So no, I don't think the Helio P70 is a better chipset.

It only is on par with SD660, because the Cortex A75 cores of the SD710 are vastly superior (and this is a great opportunity for MediaTek to have this Helio P70 as a major rival to thr SD710 by using 4 Cortex A75 cores instead of the older A73).

No need to talk about SD710, which is still out of reach for MediaTek, and we haven't even come to the realization that the new Qualcomm SD675 has 4 Cortex A76 cores (nope, I didn't mistype that, they are the new Cortex A76 cores from ARM!).

Anonymous, 24 Oct 2018I'm agree with your opinion about P70 (except about Cortex ... moreCortex A75 might be necessary for some key features like 4K@60fps video capture and 1080p@240fps slow motion functionalities.
The main reason to develop their own GPU is because of better control and integration with the CPU. Adreno GPUs work out very well on their Snapdragon CPU partners because Qualcomm has the control on both ends of the spectrum. I know it would be expensive, but it certainly would help them in their future strategies.
As for PowerVR, I haven't heard about them for a long time now (the last phone I know that used a PowerVR GPU was the iPhone 7/7+, and that was easily dethroned by the Adreno 540 of the SD835 the following year) and they certainly need to play some catching up.
Those suggestions of yours are great as well. But pretty much any manufacturer must do some improvements as simple as those things every year.

More competition is good.... but this thing, it's not really that great.
On the CPU front its just surpassing the QSD 710, but on the GPU front its losing to the QSD 636. I mean, just get the QSD 636 instead on a budget phone. If you need the extra performance, skip directly to the QSD 710, or further up to the latest Snapdragon flagship.
And the other important thing no-one's mentioning:
...as a consumer how are you going to get r00t, an unlocked bootloader, custom roms, or even a guaranteed (ie Pixel 4) software support on this chipsets?!??
These things matter, and do affect the end user experience to a significant degree!
