23 October 2018
The Pixel 3 and 3 XL are also the only ones that can charge at 10W on the new Pixel Stand.

Anonymous, 24 Oct 2018who uses wireless charging anyway.. its slow.. very slow co... moreA lot of people do, considering how many phones still provide wireless charging and how many different wireless charges there are out there.

Also, don't act like you have to pick. Just because wired charging is faster, doesn't mean a phone shouldn't have wireless charging. Who says you can't have both?

who uses wireless charging anyway.. its slow.. very slow compared to a good charger.

also should be banned globally as its wasting so much energy in transferring from the pad to the phone.

AnonD-632062, 24 Oct 2018Notice that each Pixel device from Google has many features... moreExactly.
Google has moved away from the peppy-nerd herd of yesteryears, and has transformed into a profit seeking business run with a populist agenda.

They were trying and innovating during the days of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and the Nexus 4. They settled for mediocrity with the buggy Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout and the very poor quality Nexus 5 (I know of people who RMA'd their handset x4 times). And has slowly landslided to this underwhelming Pixel 3, which is stupidly overpriced, and is counter-innovative.

It's now abundantly clear that we need more competition in this field, because a Google/Apple duopoly isn't healthy for the market. It could've been Microsoft but they've already proven their incompetence. Nobody trusts Facebook. So maybe an open-source alliance of DuckDuckGo, Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC, OpenMaps, Ello, Vimeo, Steam, RedHat....??

But hey, if you bad mouth Google then you're automatically labelled a "shill, troll, sheep, hater etc etc".

You don't want to melt the phone because cheap wireless charger decided to work out of specs. It's why I don't trust the cheap power adapters from eBay. My lowest bar is UGreen stuff which is affordable but still super reliable. There are cheaper options, but they are very much questionable...

                    more Pixel releases...and less attractive they become. It's like they are trying their best to not sell their Pixels. Compare to Nexus branding, Pixel is so much inferior in;
                    - designs (XL notch is by far the largest and the ugliest. Keep notch to minimum or copy Samsung)
                    - specs (down clocks, small battery,...4GB RAM on flagship in 2018! Are you Sony?)
                    - Hardware issues (on every single release...its camera or battery, or charging..or something. Where's your QA?)
                    - Above all pricing..for this garbage.

Now you are trying to do what Apple is doing, but you dont have branding or the loyal customer base to do that. Not only that, both your hardware and software support is not matched to Apple. Don't even mention lack of off line supports.

Cannot wait for Mate 20 Pro to arrive so I can ditch this p.o.s.

                    sincerely, Early Pixel adopter.

This is why you do not buy the Google Pixel 3 and all its problems, and why you do not buy the Pixel Stand.

It's sad that there are Android handsets brands that are better, more fair, and more honest than Google themselves.

Vic4BBM, 24 Oct 2018It's an official move by Google and a good one. Approved p... moreAre you for real?
And it's not that it's not charging with unapproved chargers. Those who have them will charge it. Also, I don't assume charging pads at public places are "Google" certified, are they? If they don't want to use standards, just don't use ANY standard connectivity feature.
They have made abundantly clear many times, that they just want to be restrictive as Apple, with high prices as well. Still don't know why some people still don't see that their sole purpose is making more money, and not for "safety". These are the same claims that sheeps make while defending 5w chargers with iPhones. Open your eyes people!!!!
We say things like "Lienovo destroyed Motorola". In this case, Google itself is destroying Android and what it stood for.

Notice that each Pixel device from Google has many features that are capped off or down-clocked. For example, last year's QuickCharge speed was capped off, the SD821 of the earlier Pixel was downclocked too. I guess it's a trend with Google.

Hey Google. Your OS is the underdog. Thus your phone cannot be picky like Apple's. Your customers are mainly poor also.

Know your customers and their needs. Else you get even less sales.

The Qi standard supports both 5W and 15W. Google should have designed the Pixel 3 to cater to the Qi standard at both wattages, instead of their own proprietary limitation & certification for 10W.

Standards exist for a reason, and to prevent fragmentation. I'd have expected Google to do better.

Apple creates restrictions: "Lol, apple exploits its stupid customers! So restricted! Android is freedom, Andoid is life!"
Google creates restrictions: "Good move! Totally amazing! This will prevent damage! Google is so nice and smart!"

Good move. A chinese magnetic charger i used on my Z ultra back in the day caused minor damage to my display. On unlocking the phone, blinds appear on the screen for 1-2 seconds. I threw out the charger the next day and no further damage was done.

It's an official move by Google and a good one.
Approved products are well calibrated with the system set up by OEM and that's why consumers will have no complains and problems.

I see many people complaining about heating while charging, slow charging, or say even blasting of gadgets. If one investigates, most of the cases are due to use of non standard / non approved systems. Most of the manufacturers already have such cap / restrictions and they clearly mention is instructions- use original accessories only. Yet there are many who ignore it.

It's nothing wrong by Google. With no quick charge by non approved accessories makers, consumers will definitely have to buy a well calibrated ones. However, on Google side, prices have to be sane.

Pixel is now a far-cry of it's Nexus phones in terms of essential features such as the headphone jack. Pixel Series at this point should just "die".
