It looks like Huawei's Night Mode finally has a worthy rival.

I dont think so Huawei With leica optics or Nokia with Carl Zeiss will ALWAYS preform a lot better than expensive ugly sandwich from Google.

    There are always low end phone or midrange device using single camera sensor if thats are your point of view.

      For me... a phone should have one camera and one button... I don't care how much software is behind... I want a single button "take a picture" and if the result is ok for me I don't care is another phone with 10 cameras with many adjustments and options!!!

      A phone should make your life simple... not more complicated!!!!

          But on the less component side, Mate 20 pro can still fit 3 camera sensor (main is big 1/1.7 size), 4200mah battery, 3d face scanner. I dont find that to be a problem, its better than competition.

          Pixel 3 upgrades from Pixel 2 are very minimal. Aside from SOC, camera hardware and other things are almost the same, later on Pixel 2 user can get the camera benefit just by using Pixel 3 software.

          And yes, Pixel picture quality still maintains the best on dynamic range. But Mate 20 pro wasnt far off and comes with more flexibility and versatility.

To each of its own.... moreYes, a dedicated camera module for a single purpose will perform better than other that is using software to mimic that mentioned feature. However the biggest issue here is that people tend to get wow-ed with multiple camera modules and they forget the fact that more sensors mean less space for other components and a more complicated design which can require compromises.

            And on another note, the usage scenarios for secondary cameras are far less prominent than those for main camera, as most of the time people tend to capture moments to memorize them which is purpose of the main camera as you want the best possible quality and a normal photo.

            One single module that I would consider would be telephoto lens, but with Super Res zoom that Google introduced, you can have that covered (to an extent of course). I would still pick a phone with single camera module that is properly manufactured (as in a sense that it has quality lens + sensor) and optimized.

                        The only useful thing from what you mention is the optical zoom, but the Pixel 3 also has a great feature that called super res zoom..

                          Pixel has a poor bokeh just like all other phones. Spots without blur, amount of blur is different for parts of same photo. Noise faces.

                                All those who were saying google pulled down the exposure in iphone xs pic to show superiority got to see these.

                                It would really look night and day differnece if these shots were taken on the XS.

It all bows down to software tweaks / AI for stabilization, done by single main sensor.

                                      Now explain this.
                                      - Can Pixel takes 3x optical zoom & 5x hybrid zoom as Mate 20?
                                      - Can Pixel takes ultra wide angle & super macro pics as Mate 20?
                                      - Do Pixel have high 40mp res photos with RAW like Mate 20?

                                      Thats are called advantage & flexibility of having 3 or 4 camera sensor.

On the other hand, it seems more likely that Huawei is doing the similar thing, multi-image stacking, if you heard of it.

                                        I usually restrain myself from commenting on GSMArena since a lot of ignorant people tend to show their "knowledge" here, but sometimes I just have to.
